1. You get to spend a week with your family

Honestly, when you're away at school, you really miss your parents sometimes. Well, I definitely do. Coming home for spring break gives me the chance to hang out with them for a week. I also get to see my big brother, my sister-in-law to be, my niece, and my nephew. There's nothing like that first big hug from your family after you've been gone for awhile. My niece and nephew brighten my world, so seeing them makes any day a million times better.

2. You get to sleep with your pets

I love my animals. I have a golden doodle named Bella, a miniature poodle named Marley, and a calico cat named Mya. Anytime I come home, they all sleep with me, and I absolutely love it. I think everyone misses having furry friends to cuddle with when they're away from home!

3. You get the chance to see your high school friends

Nothing is better than reuniting with old classmates from high school. I went to a smaller school in West Virginia, so my class was beyond close. Almost every single person in my class was friends, so when we parted ways for college, it was tough on us. Luckily, I go to West Virginia University and about 25-30 of us attend. It still doesn't make up for the friends I have that attend other schools or that stayed at home. I miss seeing them every day at school, so reuniting with them during spring break is the best.

4. You get to eat at your favorite hometown restaurants

When I come home, I usually eat at two of my absolute favorite restaurants. The first is Los Agaves in Dunbar, WV. Their chunky guacamole is to die for! The second is Sakura in Nitro, WV. The West Virginia Sushi Roll melts in your mouth. I'd be lying if I said I haven't already eaten at both of them over spring break. It makes you happy to eat at local restaurants when you come home because you finally feel like you're back. It's so much better than some of that nasty dining hall food!

5. You get to be lazy

Sleeping is one of my favorite things to do, but as every college student knows, you don't get to do much of that when you're at school. This is especially true when you live in a dorm. The walls are paper-thin, people are loud, and sometimes your room is so hot that you want to die. When you get home for spring break, you get to sleep your life away. When your parents work during the day, you can take as many naps as you want. Or you can just lay in bed and binge-watch Netflix all day. It's fantastic!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
