I've always thought that dressing up for Halloween as part of a group is much more fun than dressing up solo. It's a great conversation starter and the group pictures you take will be way funnier than any selfie.
However, some of the costumes online are so expensive and elaborate that no college student would want to cough up the money to wear it for one night. Here are some ideas that won't break the bank and will be fairly easy to get your hands on:
1. The Spice Girls
My sorority sisters and I dressed up as the Spice Girls once, and it was awesome. The costumes were so easy to put together, and everyone instantly recognized who we were. I also got to live my childhood dream of being Ginger Spice. Highly recommended!
2. Minions
This outfit is incredibly popular, but paying homage to "Despicable Me" is a super easy way to coordinate a silly group costume. You can get overalls at pretty much any second-hand store, and a yellow shirt (or crop top, if you're feeling sassy) is pretty easy to find. Get some goggles, black shoes, black gloves and viola! You've got a complete Minion costume!
3. Beer Pong Cups
Dress up as everyone's favorite party game! Make a dress out of red fabric, and use black duct tape to write "SOLO" down the side, like a solo cup. Make a necklace or headpiece out of ping pong balls, and you're good to go.
4. Mean Girls
There are so many different outfits you could choose from "Mean Girls" (I'm a mouse, duh), but my personal favorite is the iconic Regina George cut-up tank top look. Wear a skirt, a colorful bra and cut two holes on the chest. Find a friend to be Gretchen, Karen, and Cady and you've got the whole Plastics crew.
5. The Sims
If you've never played The Sims before, you've been missing out. I grew up playing this game on my old Windows '98 computer, so when I saw this group costume I had to include it. It's so easy, too; decorate a piece of cardboard to include the different shades of nude squares (like the censored blur over the naked Sims) and make a headpiece out of wire and green paper. If you want to get really into it, you can even learn a couple Simlish phrases (the language the characters speak), but that might be pushing it. Bonus: I have never seen this costume in person before, so your group would definitely be unique.
There are so many different costume ideas you could use to dress up with your friends, but these five are definitely my personal favorites.
Have a safe and FUN Halloween!
