I have long hair and it's been that way for quite a while. I love my long hair! I love the way it flows when it's straightened, I love the big curls I get and I love how long my fishtail braids are. Even though there are many things I love about my long hair, there are everyday struggles that I face as well. I'm sure I am not the only one who faces these everyday struggles. So, for those of you who don't have long hair, here are 5 everyday struggles girls with long hair face.
1. Constantly shedding hair. My hair is always all over anything. Some people will find my hair on their clothes, their socks or their blankets. My hair falls all over my bathroom floor and quickly adds up. I always have to worry about emptying my brush out and cleaning it because it quickly builds up a big black bush haha. I am constantly pulling out wads of hair from my hairbrush, or random hairs off myself after a shower. I don't even understand how I have that much hair to give, and yet still have intensely thick hair.
2. Straightening long hair and doing a decent job takes at least forty-five minutes up to an hour to do. I was always so jealous of my roommates quickly being able to do their hair and be ready to go out, while I, on the other hand, had to start prepping and straightening my hair two hours before going out. To do a decent job I have to do small layers and go over it at least six times before it's actually straight. The end result is beautiful, I love it but it sure is time-consuming. I feel for the other girls who have frizzy, thick or long hair like me. I envy you girls with pin straight long hair.
3. Untangling hair takes forever, and it sure hurts a lot. After moving around all night, or all day, my hair is bound to snarl up and cause knots. Sometimes the knots or so bad, I have to just rip out that chunk because it's not coming out... yikes. Or whether I've just been active and left my hair in a ponytail without braiding it, it becomes a fluff ball and a mess. I have to brush it out before I shower or otherwise it'll hurt even more after when it's wet. I'll never be able to tease my hair because there's so much of it, un-teasing it would take forever. Even when I was a kid and getting ready for bed, my mom would brush my hair and I dreaded every second of it. Sure it felt good for some parts, but for others, it felt like my forehead was about to be ripped off from the pressure of my hair being pulled every which way.
4. People, or yourself, will always accidentally pull your hair. Whether you're hanging out with friends and laying down and their elbow falls on your hair, or you accidentally close your hair in the car door, it'll happen. I've had times where people are moving around and have something in their hand and it will catch my hair. It's funny, but it's unfortunate too. Or in the past, I'll be laying down with my friends on the floor watching movies, and someone will get up and accidentally step on my hair, that's not too bad because sometimes my hair was so far out it wasn't connected to the root to hurt enough, but one incident with an ex-boyfriend was the worst. He was standing up, and I was laying on the floor, you know when you have someone pull you up after you've fallen? You're lying on your back and someone stands in front of you and pulls you up by your hands? Yeah, he was going to do that, but the worst you can imagine happened. I didn't notice it, but he was standing on a part of my hair and when he pulled me up, I screamed. I immediately felt my hair being pulled an opposite way from the direction I was going. He felt bad, but man was I not a happy camper.
5. I can't let my hair down in the car with the windows open. I don't know if this particularly applies to girls with long hair, but when we leave the windows down, my hair flies every which way. Since there is so much of it, my hair decides that all of it going to spread out. It gets in my face, my mouth, the outside of the car, my friend's face and most importantly my eyes. My hair is always findings its way to block my vision, or get into my mouth. Wearing lip gloss and having my hair down isn't always a great option. It finds its way and tries to stick itself in my gloss. It's gross, and then I look like the girl from the movie White Chicks trying to slap the hair out of her mouth. If I'm going somewhere with a lot of movement and action, my hair has to be up and it sucks. It'll waste the nice hairstyle I was trying to do.
