I’m from the western suburbs of Chicago and surprisingly, country music is pretty darn big—especially at my high school. For some reason everyone has been to at least one country concert and most love country music. Even if one of my friends was not fond of country, they could probably tell you the top 10 country songs at the time. But I think it’s pretty undeniable that country music has this essence to it that will bring you back to summer and better times when you listen to those particular lyrics. Here are some where I have found myself nostalgic of sunsets, summer and sublime moments shared with people I love:
*Sidenote: My dad will not be happy when he finds out I wrote about country music…I was raised on rock n’ roll and alternative music. He would quote “rather I be goth than a country music fan”. Sorry, Dad. I know I’ll make you like country soon enough!
Springsteen
“When I think about you, I think about 17. I think about my old jeep, think about the stars in the sky. Funny how a melody sounds like a memory”
There is always that one song that brings us back to an exact moment riding in a car at night, surrounded by stars and smiling uncontrollaby. There is also probably someone who you picture riding in that car beside you.
Crazy Girl
“Crazy girl, don’t you know that I love you. I wouldn’t dream of going no where. Silly woman come here let me hold you”
Every girl is going to overthink like crazy and stress about every little relationship detail. But sometimes this is all we have to hear from someone we love. Then we can finally take a deep breath and relax.
Humble and Kind
"Hold the door, say "please", say "thank you". Don't steal, don't cheat and don't lie. I know you got mountains to climb but always stay humble and kind."
This is always something to live by. Personally, I feel it makes someone more attractive when living out these actions and thoughts as well.
American Country Love Song
“In every town, in every place, there's a boy who's trying to take a chance and dance and find a way to run away with her heart. In the back of an old Ford truck, in the bar, just looking for love in a pair of oh my blue eyes, let them fireworks start. That American country love song ain't ever gonna quit playing on and on and on”
Whenever I hear these lyrics I always picture high school and football season. Everything was so American and this captures just how exciting being young and carefree is.
Shotgun Rider
“I don’t wanna wake up lookin’ into someone else’s eyes, another voice callin' me baby on the other end of the phone. Another girl putting on her makeup before dinner on a Friday night. No I don’t ever wanna know no other shotgun rider beside me singin’ to the radio”

This is one of my favorite country songs. I always sing along and picture riding next to that someone who will sing along with me.
I think a little part of everyone is a little in love with country music.
