Every weekend the sounds of students bemoaning the fact that they have nothing to do while they procrastinate on their schoolwork drift across the campus. Next time, just consult this list of different places to go and things to do around Stevenson University before giving up and scrolling through Netflix while you wait for your pizza to be delivered (not that Netflix and pizza are a bad way to spend your weekend, but going out and about would definitely help stave off the doldrums).
Without further ado, here are some fun places to go and things to do around Stevenson University:
1. AMC Movie Theater
10100 Mil Run Ct, Owings Mills, MD
https://www.amctheatres.com/movie-theatres/baltimo...
You can never go wrong with a good movie! With the movie theater right down the street, you can go see the latest films in regular, 3D, or IMAX (depending on availability). The chairs are actually pretty comfortable and the popcorn is fresh! I would recommend seeing a matinee if you are low on funds as these showings are considerably cheaper.
2. AMF Pikesville Lanes
1723 Reisterstown Rd, Pikesville, MD
http://amf.com/pikesvillelanes/
This will really bowl you over! The Pikesville Lanes is a great place to hang out with friends and get in some strikes. The price is relatively cheap at around $15 with a shoe rental on a normal day. However, you should check their website for special offers!
3. Magooby's Joke House
9603 Deereco Rd, Timonium, MD
Honestly, I LOVE Magooby’s. If you are into lol-ing, this is the place to be! My friends and I discovered this joke house on accident. We wanted to find a comedy club that was 18+ rather than 21+ and boy did we find a gem. From famous headliners like the Wayans Brothers to local comedians, you’ll find them all at Magooby’s. There is a two item minimum, but you can order two sodas and meet the requirement. If you sign up for their email list, you will receive great coupons. But the best part is that you can get in free to certain shows by just showing your student ID. You still have to order at least two items, but getting in free is still pretty awesome!
4. Inner Harbor
Baltimore, MD
http://baltimore.org/article/baltimore-inner-harbo...
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor boasts a variety of activities that range from free to spendy. You can wander along the harbor, take in a street performer or eat at one of the many restaurants nearby. You can also visit the National Aquarium or the Maryland Science Center or take a paddle boat out on the bay. Weekend nights, you may even hear some free music outside the Hard Rock Café. Don’t feel like driving? Take the Metro! Stevenson provides shuttles to and from the Metro station in Owings Mills.
5. Mitchell's Golf Complex
301 Mitchell Dr, Reisterstown, Md
A nice, sunny weekend is the best time to go to Mitchell’s Golf Complex! You don’t have to play golf to go to Mitchell’s. The best parts of the complex are the three mini-golf courses. There is the Regular miniature golf course for $5, which has standard obstacles and is good for beginners. The Championship miniature golf course for $7 includes a couple of water obstacles and longer range shots. The final course is the Monster in the Pines miniature golf course for $7, which includes water obstacles and boasts the title of longest par 70 in MD. When my friend and I went, we did the Championship course and had a blast even though we lost our balls in the water and had to fish them out. Oops! For under $20 you could spend all day at the mini-golf courses!
I hope the next time the weekend comes around you’ll think twice about putting on those sweatpants to eat pizza while scrolling through Netflix for hours before settling on a show. Go out on the town!
