Now, I know the concept of Thanksgiving can be problematic, and there are no bittersweet movies or holiday jingles, but when November rolls around, Netflix is always waiting with old episodes of our favorite TV shows dedicated to the celebratory day.
Bob’s Burgers “Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal” and “Turkey in a Can”
The Belchers never let you down. Bob’s love for the holiday reels you into two hysterical episodes in the third and fourth season. Season three’s “Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal” invites you along to holiday shennanigans with the Belcher family and their landlord, Mr. Fischoedor in murder mystery set up (only the victim is an already-dead turkey named Lance). Season four’s “Turkey in a Can” shows a more traditional Belcher Thanksgiving with a catch- Bob finds the turkey plunged in the toilet every morning.
New Girl “Thanksgiving”
Much to her roommates dismay, Jess invites cute co-worker Paul (guest star Justin Long) over for Thanksgiving dinner. The picture perfect Thanksgiving in mind does not go according to plan as Nick can’t stand Paul and spends the day trying to stand his bubbly personality.
Friends “The One With All the Thanksgivings”
Season five, episode eight of Friends is by far the best of the show’s Thanksgivings as the gang remember their worst Thanksgiving holidays. Cue the cringeworthy 80s hairstyles, Joey with a turkey stuck on his head, and stories of Phoebe’s past lives.
How I Met Your Mother “Slapsgiving”
Lily and Marshall host the first Thanksgiving for the gang. Ted and Robin struggle with the complication of their relationship as Marshall slowly tortures Barney with the continuation of the “slap-bet” and Lily just wants dinner to be perfect.
Gilmore Girls “A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving”
Rory and Lorelai count down Thanksgiving dinner with Lorelai’s parents, Richard and Emily, by attending their friends’ celebration. We follow the Gilmore’s through Lane’s Korean lunch, Suki’s festive outdoor meal, and a special meal at Luke’s to a fancy dinner at the extravagant Gilmore mansion.
These are just a few hidden Thanksgiving gems among the Netflix library of TV shows. Watching these classic examples of a family oriented holiday is the perfect way to anticipate the last Thursday of this month!
