5 Bands You Need To Listen To ASAP

If you’re anything like me, then you’re always on the search for new and different music. For whatever reason, I’ve always preferred listening to bands as opposed to singular artists and musicians. I love sharing these bands with family and friends, and then proceeding to bond over the music that they make.

So, without further ado, here are five bands that I’m currently listening to and you should as well:

1.) Haim

Haim is an all girl band born out of Los Angeles, California. The American pop rock band features sisters Este, Alana, and Danielle Haim. Haim released their first EP in 2012 titled, “Forever” and a year later put out the full album “Days Are Gone.” Overall, Haim provides a unique listen and something different than the everyday music out there today.

Songs to check out: “The Wire,” “Falling,” and “Don’t Save Me.”

2.) The Head and The Heart

The Head and The Heart is an indie folk band from Seattle, Washington. The band is made up of six members playing instruments like guitar, violin, banjo, bass, piano, and more. The band has put out two albums, “The Head and The Heart” and “Let’s Be Still” since their birth in 2009. In 2011, their single “Lost in My Mind” hit #1 on Adult Alternative Songs, a specific chart that their songs seem to dominate on.

Songs to check out: “Lost in My Mind,” “Rivers & Roads,” and “Let’s Be Still.”

3.) MisterWives

MisterWives is a band composed of six members all out of New York City. Their style is known as indie pop and they’ve opened for commonly known bands such as Twenty One Pilots, Bleachers, The Mowgli’s, and American Authors. MisterWives first EP, titled “Reflections,” came out in January 2014 and since then their popularity has skyrocketed. Leader singer Mandy Lee’s distinctive voice and the band’s catchy rhythms are enough to leave you wanting more at the end of every song.

Songs to check out: “Reflections, “Our Own House,” and “Coffins.”

4.) Sleeping at Last

Remember that super cute Budweisier SuperBowl commercial last year? The one with the cover of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” and the puppy? You have Sleeping at Last to thank for that heart-wrenching rendition of the classic song. The band, which has actually been around since 1999, have released several albums, all consisting of easy-listening melodies and beautiful lyrics. While the band has had members come and go, currently, Ryan O’Neal, vocalist, guitarist, and pianist, has held his own in the bands more recent releases.

Songs to check out: “Sun,” “Jupiter,” and “Light.”

5.) Walk the Moon

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. I know you’re sick of “Shut up and Dance.” I am too. However, I promise you this small band from Cincinnati, Ohio has many other gems worth listening to. The band’s first single, “Anna Sun” gained attention from the indie rock community and was named Song of the Summer by MTV in 2012. Since then, the band’s popularity has sky-rocketed, earning them a solid fan-base and a promising future.

Songs to check out: “Jenny,” “Shiver, Shiver,” and “Avalanche.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
