“The moments that make life worth living are when things are at their worst and you find a way to laugh.”
Sooner or later, you will come to a point in their life where they feel as though nothing is going the right way. Whether that be a job opportunity that slipped right through your fingers, a paper that didn’t receive the grade you expected, or family issues -- these things are inevitable, and sometimes too much to handle. But as you mature, you will find it easier to make the most out of all the wrongs and laugh at how much importance you placed on these single events that simply just do not define who you are as a person. Instead of putting yourself through that avoidable stress, take a second to pause, laugh, and get right back on track.
“I’m a woman with thoughts and questions and s**t to say.”
What other explanation is needed? Your voice needs to be heard, and your opinion is just as important as any other person out there. The worst thing you can do in life is be a passive and ignorant part of society. Be a voice of change and a face of inspiration, not only for yourself, but for others as well. Question things you don’t believe in, engage in meaningful conversations and make. Things. Happen. In this day and age, you have all the power in the world to make an impact and challenge the norms if you set your mind to it.
“Don’t feel bad for me. I think I’m, like, so pretty.”
Life isn’t about waiting for someone else to give you validation on your accomplishments. It’s about you learning to love the person you’ve grown into regardless of the criticisms of others. You learn to appreciate yourself as an individual and find yourself relying less on others to build yourself up – because you can do it yourself. This is one of the hardest life lessons to learn, but once you get there, you know you’ve genuinely grown into the person you were meant to become. And you can call yourself pretty all you want.
“I was brought into this world thinking I was gorgeous because my mother was extremely devoted to this notion.”
Listen to your mom. Whether it's about her thoughts on your relationship or her advice on how to take care of yourself when you are sick, she is always right. It might take you a while (as in, until you’re 20) to come around to this idea, but the sooner the better. Because not only will she be most knowledgeable about everything (I mean, literally everything), she will be your biggest supporter through and through. Believe her when she tells you that you are beautiful. She isn’t just saying it to flatter you; she is saying it because she wholeheartedly believes in it. And you should too.
“It’s been a life-altering year. But I guess every year for everyone is a life-altering year.”
You have the power to see what an amazing impact you can make on your life when you reflect back on each passing year. Make sure that you take steps in life that catapult you forward and give you something to be proud of when you look back on your accomplishments. Make it a goal to make every year life altering – whether that be something little, like sticking to a new exercise routine, or big, like progressing upwards in your job. You hold the power to steer your life in the exact direction that you want it to go, so make sure it is in the positive way that you want.
