2017 was a roller coaster of a year for me, full of unbelievable highs and almost unspeakable lows. It seemed to follow Newton's third law: for every highlight: (trips to Spain and New York, along with graduation from high school and a Paramore concert) there was a rough time waiting for me. Bouts with anxiety and depression, health problems, and withdrawal from university in early fall put my future in flux.

That being said, thanks to my amazing friends and family who have supported me in decisions and ensured that I got the help I needed, things are looking up. Here are some of the things I'm looking forward to most in the new year.

1. Getting a fresh start (hopefully)

In the three months since I left school, I have volunteered in multiple places and learned the importance of mindfulness, which I will continue to learn and practice in my daily life. Another part of my recovery has been finding the courage to get back on the horse after a bad experience. To that end, I am enrolled at Georgia State's Dunwoody campus for the spring semester. I am at once hopeful and anxious.

2. Discovering new music

Music is one of my favorite things in the world, and dad surprised me with family plan for Christmas. Now I have the means to catch up on all the incredible music I missed, and to dive deep into artists I'm curious about. That the rest of my family can too is just a bonus.

3. The Lion King

Another surprise on Christmas morning was a envelope bearing tickets to the regional run of the Lion King in late January. This was made better by the realization that we wil be going in group of six. Not only will I get to indulge my love of live theater, but I will be able to do it with one of my best friends.

4. A Wedding

In this case, the wedding between my cousin and her boyfriend of many years. I have looked up to her for almost as long as I've been alive, and I would not miss her wedding for anything. I am overjoyed to see her so happy.

5. The World Cup

Yes, I know the United States is not a part of the tournament this year, but if you think that's going to stop me from enjoying a solid month of the beautiful game as it was meant to be played, you have never met. Neymar is in his prime, and Brazil is looking to redeem themselves after a disastrous end to the last cycle. This may be Messi's last World Cup, a chance he had to make manifest almost single handedly. Iceland is the smallest country to ever qualify and is looking to improve on a surprising round-of-16 finish at the 2016 Euros, during which they won over millions across the globe.

Anything can happen in 2018, and the limitless possibilites are certianly exliahating to consider

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
