The Fourth of July, or Independence Day to all of the particular folks, is probably one of the most magical holidays we celebrate (sorry Christmas). Sure it comes with sunburns, sweat and - for you limit-pushers - the next day hangover; but it is the one day a year we get to spend celebrating our independence and freedom with family, friends, bomb.com food and great weather. But the most important part of the 4th (besides the BBQ?): a killer playlist.

During this day of national pride the smell of sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and charcoal grills fill the summer air while pools and sprinklers get used to their max. As the sun goes down, people trade their beach towels for picnic blankets as they vie for a prime spot to view the nights main event - fireworks. Kids and adults alike chase each other with sparklers and write temporary messages in the air. If you're luck it's possible to catch two to three different light shows without leaving your blanket, illuminating the sky with vivid color. Ugh! Chills.

Your soundtrack to the perfect Fourth of July? A mix of classics, American staples, and fresh new beats. From the backyard grill fest to the rooftop to the beach to the late-night house party, this playlist will liven them all. Have a look at some key tracks:

American - Lana Del Rey (above)

Chill, mellow and sultry - this is a must for any July 4th.

Born In The U.S.A - Bruce Springsteen

This is, like, basically our national anthem anyway, and it's the Boss - so how can you go wrong?

Party In The U.S.A. - Miley Cyrus

Oh, Old Miley...Not only is this song a modern classic, but how can anyone forget that amazing video (if only we could all rock short shorts, cowboy boots, and a vest).

She's American - The 1975

Even though this song talks about stereotypical British guys and American girls, it's still catchy and, let's be honest, the 1975 are simply irresistible.

Surfin' U.S.A. - The Beach Boys

What's summer with out the Beach Boys. Nothing: the answer is nothing.

Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Again, another American classic/Fourth of July must, this song will get everyone jamming.

American Oxygen - Rihanna

This may not be one of RihRih's biggest hits, but it is #perfect for Independence Day.

New Americana - Halsey

This is the American anthem for all those Gen X'ers out there raised on Biggie and Nirvanna.

Summer Sixteen - Drake

I know. I know. This has nothing to do with America, or the 4th of July, and Drake is Canadian. I know. But this is summer '16, is it not? Plus, it's such a jam.

Star Spangled Banner (Live at Woodstock) - Jimi Hendrix

This is hands down the greatest rendition of our national anthem ever performed. Ever. Sorry Whitney Houston, but this should be performed before every sporting event and every occasion.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour
StableDiffusion

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
