Meredith Grey is typically known for being one of the world's greatest general surgeons and also for the epic love story that is her and McDreamy. However, before she was able to get to be completely confident in herself and her love life, Dr. Grey was merely an intern blindly trying to become top dog, much like us college students. Here are a few ways we can relate to Meredith Grey:
1. You thought you had commitment issues before, think again.
Before Meredith and Derek officially wed on a sticky note, there were several times when we wondered if she would ever be able to commit.
Much like us as college students who can't commit to majors or even what Netflix series we want to watch, it took Meredith months to finally realize she didn't belong with the cute Veterinarian that took care of her dog but rather her soulmate, Dr. Sheppard.
Let's just say, it doesn't look like I will be deciding on an orthopedic or cardiac specialty anytime soon.
2. Abandonment issues creep up like a bad cold.
Many moons ago there were the original five interns, much like the students you took college algebra with and now there are only two of you left in your major.
One of those interns was Christina Yang, your person, the one you roomed with freshmen year and now she is married and having kids and you are still trying to decide if you look too drunk in the picture you want to put on Facebook.
And then there was Derek Sheppard, the boyfriend that you were forced to leave in high school but is the reason you are failing general psychology because you would rather stay up all night and stalk his Twitter favorites.
3. People keep coming around that you don't like.
First, it was Addison Sheppard, your boyfriend's actual girlfriend that he swore was long gone but you keep running into her on Thursday nights and she is much prettier and much more refined (and much less intoxicated).
Next, it was Lexi Grey, your sorority sister that keeps showing up everywhere you are and trying to steal your shine when you didn't even know she existed.
Finally, you have Amelia Sheppard, your friend's friend who you tried to hate for so long but she was persistent enough and stuck around and now you can't imagine life without her.
4. Random dance parties and tequila shots are just what the doctor ordered.
Sometimes after Izzy Stevens, your roommate who only lives there because you couldn't find anyone else, throws a party at your house and you had just got done writing a ten-page research paper and you need a pick-me-up.
You find your person, you take some tequila shots and you dance the rest of the night away because that's better than sitting in your room texting your mom about how annoyed you are.
The long struggle that Meredith Grey went through before becoming a strong, independent surgeon should be motivation for us college students. If she can do it with her "dark and twisty" path, so can you.
