Inspired by the poem by Erin Hanson

“Welcome to society

We hope you enjoy your stay,

And please feel free to be yourself,

As long as it’s in the right way,

Make sure to love your body,

Not too much or we’ll tear you down,

We’ll bully you for smiling,

And then wonder why you frown,

We’ll tell you that you’re worthless,

That you shouldn’t make a sound,

And then cry with all the others,

As you’re buried in the ground,

You can fall in love with anyone,

As long as it’s who we choose,

And we’ll let you have your opinions,

But please shape them to our views,

Welcome to society,

We promise that we won’t deceive,

And one more rule now that you’re here,

There’s no way you can leave.

~e.h”

1. Fitting in is the most important

From Childhood we have been taught to conform to the ideas which have been baked into the totem pole of popularity. We were told that being different makes you weird and being smart makes you a nerd and everything else falls short to being popular on the spectrum of importance. Most people never learn that other people's opinions of you will never have to affect your opinion of yourself; as long you are a good person and see yourself as so that’s all the matters. Be different and most of all be yourself.

2. You’re worthless

No matter how we look, speak, walk, or do anything someone, somewhere will alway see you you as less than perfect. Everybody has been built to have a complex because perfection is expected in aspects of our that are ultimately impossible. We are constantly fighting for compensation because society has forced to negotiate our confidence for compliance.

3. Loving yourself is being conceded

If you think too fond of yourself by using the words pretty, beautiful, or handsome you are considered conceded. How then is a person suppose to build their self esteem? Never, ever be afraid to give yourself a compliment because you can't count on others to appreciate your greatness.

4. Climb the ladder to success at all cost

We have been told that it is acceptable the step on other human beings to be where we want in this world, that is just considered business, But success is not measured by an amount of items but by your amount of happiness. It is never so important to obtain idealistic success that you must crush another person.

Basically society has created the world to be harsh and truly a place where being fake is normal. Can you imagine if we lived in a world everyone was honest, accepting, and true to who they were? Where being different and admitting our faults was not judged. We all make mistakes and we all have our bad days, but when we all stop pretending we are perfect when we really aren't is when society will start to change. Because we can only use to word society without placing blame for so long before we come to realize the people are what make society in its entirety. God bless.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
