Photographers see the world through a different kind of lens, no pun intended ;). Like most creatives, we love our work and everything that comes along with it. The composition, the lighting, the editing, all leading up to the final image and for me, it is like giving a gift to your loved one on Christmas. Watching your clients face glow with excitement as they look through their gallery is an amazing feeling. For the most part, we're a pretty chill group of people us photographers BUT there are some things that really, really get on our nerves. Things that happen on a constant basis that make us go a little insane inside. In honor of annoyed photographers everywhere, here are 4 things every photographer knows and probably hates.
1. "Can You Send Me The Unedited Photos From The Shoot?"
Asking for the unedited pictures from your photo shoot doesn't sound like a big deal but it is. When you book a photographer, you're booking them because you like their work. Meaning all of it, down to their editing. If you want RAW images with no edit what so ever then your best bet is to find a photographer that matches your needs. Writer and photographer Daniela Bowker coined the perfect phrase for this request:
2. "Oh, I Didn't Realize I Had To Pay"
Having a photographer friend is cool, I get it, but you can't expect free photo shoots whenever you want. There is a lot of time, equipment, and money that goes into being a great photographer and doing free shoots all the time is not paying those bills, yall. I personally don't mind helping out or throwing a discount, but you can not get freebies all the time. The saying, "You get what you pay for," applies to photo shoots too.
3. Stop Throwing Filters Over Edited Photos
I love VSCO just as much as the next girl, but for crying out loud when we send you the final images that are already edited....DO NOT USE ANOTHER FILTER OVER THEM. This makes us cringe! Photographers edit images to look natural, not orange and overly filtered. I promise P5 doesn't look as good as you think it might on this photo.
4. When Your Client Shows Up Late
Sure, things happen. You get stuck in traffic, an emergency happens, we're human we get that. When you show up and your excuse it that you were getting ready, it takes us a lot to not want to leave right then and there. This is why the date and time are set up in advance so there is no reason for us to miss that prime lighting. Every photographer knows about the golden hour and how crucial it is to make it, so please show up on time!
I could go on for days about the things that drive me nuts as a photographer, what are some things that make you cringe?
