4 Intriguing 'Sims 3' Anecdotes

Because it's a standing rule that characters lead more interesting lives than the writer.

This is the extent of what I've been doing all week: Be unable to go out because I can't drive, and most of the "easy" options on the town have been done. Write stupid dialogues for characters. Play "Sims 3." Eat. Play more "Sims 3." Do some laundry and/or clean out the dishwasher. Play more "Sims 3." So, since I've been spending a lot of time on that game, and my sims clearly lead more interesting lives than myself, I might as tell a few stories about what's been going on with them.

1. Out of Character...Or Hidden Feelings?

Jane Niland

My Sim Icarus is Shy and a Loner, but also a true hopeless romantic, dreaming of his soulmate even when he wasn't that great at talking to girls. One day, he came home from school with a girl he particularly liked, and slowly but surely, they began to hit it off. When the weekend rolled around, he worked up the nerve to ask her out and managed to get a kiss. He later snuck out after curfew to go stargazing with her. After waiting an eternity for her to also age up into a young adult along with him, they became a lot more serious, and I found out one of her traits was unflirty.

For the record, the two of them were friends before Icarus started flirting with her, although she seemed to be throwing herself at him afterward. Even after he aged up and she was still a teenager, she kept asking him to hang out with her and making up excuses to be near him. Needless to say, she was all over him when she finally aged up as well. I guess for the sake of the story-line, she was also crushing on him when they first met, but had no idea what she was doing, and just as impatient about aging up.

2. The Artsy Bachelor Gets a Child

Jane Niland

Nikolai is one of the most interesting sims I've played with (And due to the continuity of that family, he's also technically Icarus's older brother). He ran away from his home in Moonlight Falls to pursue music and the visual arts. He'd been partying it up in Bridgeport for a long while, becoming a well known Indie musician, and later catching the attention of the art appraisal industry through both his own work and expertise in art history, as well as leaving a string of broken hearts behind him. However, since he'd achieved his Lifetime Wish of "Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous," he hadn't felt all that fulfilled. Out of the blue, he decided he wanted a child, and needless to say, a lot of the people around him were surprised.

On the outside, he didn't seem like the parenting type, but before he left, he was usually the one to watch his little sister (more on her later), and did a good job doing it, and he wanted to teach someone everything he knew. He wasn't exactly fond of the idea of getting one of his paramours pregnant, so instead, he adopted a little girl named Ophelia. Thankfully, he was able to raise her well, and she has since grown into a charming young lady and a successful actress.

3. Doctor Chiasa

Jane Niland

Chiasa is, you guessed it, Icarus and Nikolai's sister. She was born when Nikolai was a teenager (Odd age gap... Perhaps I should bring up that they happen to be vampires...). She was close to her older brother, that is, until he up and left when she was a child. They have since made up in the narrative, but the experience screwed her up a little bit, and she started seeing a therapist. During her healing process, she starting becoming interested in the subject, and more aware of the hurt she was feeling, and how much more pain other people were in. She decided she wanted to start studying psychology, so she could help all those people, as well as start her own family, so she would learn from her parents' mistakes. As a teenager, she had more disagreements with her father, since she blamed him for her brother's departure (He himself did feel guilty about it), and did her best to help her younger brother out with his girl problems. Luckily, her relations with her father have since improved, and she's killing it in the Medical career.

4. My Simsona

Jane Niland

Yay, a sim without relation! Of course with Supernatural and University, I just had to remake my simsona with new traits, clothes, and of course, magic (She's a witch). Until she became a bestselling author, she decided to join the Journalism career to hold her over and perfect her writing skill. However, even in "The Sims," life isn't that simple. Upon meeting her boss, Connor Frio, she was attracted to him, but being Socially Awkward, she wasn't exactly going to make a move on him right away. They did eventually become good friends, since they had a lot in common (Both Loners, both Bookworms, and same Lifetime Wish of Professional Author), though at the same time, she was still pining for him. Eventually, she invited him over, and worked up the nerve to confess her feelings, which he luckily reciprocated (To that I say, go her. She's so much braver than me). As of now, they're married, have a son named Sebastian, and are both still working at becoming the best authors in the sim world.

The life lesson here? When your life is uneventful, and you love making up stories, play "The Sims." Then at least you're entertaining yourself a little bit while being a little productive with your writing.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
