After coming back home after logging ungodly hours studying for finals at the campus library, I scrolled through Instagram and Snapchat to see what my friends had been doing. My FOMO significantly increased as I saw bright photos of outlandish outfits and footage of concerts that had palm trees serving as the backdrop. It was the first weekend of Coachella, a music festival held in Indio, California. Then, I set my alarm to wake up early the next morning in order to study. Again. I will be, again, living vicariously through Coachella-goers’ social media as weekend two comes up. Below are a list of reasons, in no particular order, of why I would rather be at Coachella.
1. Clothing

While my college student budget probably wouldn’t be able to fund six separate outfits that are Coachella-worthy, a girl can dream, right? Festival-goers tend to wear their most creative clothing; this often consists of glitter, bralettes, sheer fabric, lace and fringe. Designer sunglasses, optional.
2. Music

With headliners, such as Calvin Harris, DJ Mustard, Ellie Goulding, Halsey, Jack Ü, Major Lazer and Zedd, not to mention surprise appearances by Kesha and Sam Smith, Coachella has a pretty enviable set list this year. What I would give to be dancing in a flower crown to some EDM instead of listening to the same artists through my headphones in the library.
3. Celebrities

Celebrities turn out en masse to be a part of and enjoy Coachella. Vanessa Hudgens, the undisputed queen of the festival, can always be counted on when it comes to any Coachella-related event. Other celebrities, such as Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift and even Rihanna and Leo DiCaprio, have attended concerts during the first weekend.
4. California

The iconic ferris wheel, sunset and palm trees are all integral parts of the California landscape that help define the Coachella experience. Even though it’s located in the middle of a desert, the festival does a fantastic job at showcasing California’s finest.
