It has been a hell of a year for us, women, in using our voices to raise awareness of women's rights and also to celebrate the incredible support that we have for each other.

In honor of Women's History Month, I want to share with you 4 book recommendations written by 4 AMAZING female authors. From tackling the most difficult challenges to breaking away from a strict standard and culture for women, these books are life changing and worth the time!!

Some books you may have already read and heard of, but truly I advise you to read again, with a new mindset, focusing on the women characters in the book.

There is so much power and wisdom in the words that we use and the stories that we tell, whether it is nonfiction or fiction. I truly hope that you will add these 4 books to your reading list!

1. The Joy Luck Club: A Novel by Amy Tan

With four Chinese women as main characters, there are a lot of different stories shared in this book. With the struggle of building a deeper relationship with their American-born daughters and the conflicts that develop as their views are different, it's a story of self-discovery and patience, especially with the hardships that come as immigrant families.

2. The Vegetarian by Han Kang

After a horrifying nightmare, Yeong-hye decides to stop eating meat. In a country where being vegetarian is uncommon as meat is an important part of food culture, she gets a lot of attack from her family and those around her. This leads to many relationships falling apart and eventually leads to the extreme where everyone around her thinks she's insane. This book tackles South Korea's dryness to mental illness and also the culture of 'fitting in' to our societal norms.

3. The Best We Could Do: An Illustrated Memoir by Thi Bui

This is a graphic novel about a family's immigration to America, after the fall of South Vietnam during the 1970s. As a first-time mother and as it is the first time in America, Thi Bui learns how to balance the new changes in her life, and during this journey, discovers herself in a new way, growing through the sacrifices and love.

4. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

As a young girl, living in Brooklyn during the early 1900's, Francie Nolan goes through challenges of childhood and entering adulthood, just like any other young adult. Her father is an alcoholic, but she admires him. Her mother is loving, but harsh at the same time. Even through the financial struggles and family issues, Francie finds the pleasures in what she has instead, something we can all agree that we struggle with. Francie will truly bring you back to were you started, in bringing hope and strength that we all need.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
