College Is All About Studying The Night Before.. Right?

30 Thoughts That Run Through Your Head While Trying To Study

So I prefer to study outside of my apartment because there's something about knowing my bed is only a few feet away that keeps me from studying and instead taking three hour naps. I usually study at either the campus library or this quaint little coffee shop right off campus. Either way it never fails that when I tell myself I need to study... it never happens. Maybe your thoughts do not go in this exact order, but one thing is for sure that when you need to study it never really goes to plan.

Here is the process of trying to study:

1. You spend about 20 minutes getting everything set up from your laptop to pulling out a single pencil.

2. It takes at least another 10 minutes to find a good music station.

3. When you finally start studying, you see someone sent a text message.

4. You respond to the text message with a quick reply.

5. Tell yourself you will look at Instagram real quick to see if anything recent has been posted since 10 minutes ago when you last looked.

6. 20 minutes later you decide to check Snapchat.

7. You love an outfit you saw so now you start online shopping.

8. You remember you are broke and think why are you even online shopping.

9. Decide to finally start studying.

10. Start thinking about the weekend.

11. Think about all the things in your closet you can wear for this weekend.

12. I need to do laundry when I get back.

13. Decide to start studying on your computer.

14. Instead log into Facebook.

15. See a cool article.

16. Start searching through The Odyssey.

17. Decide to write an article.

18. While writing about a past relationship you start to think about the boy who screwed you over.

19. You then remind yourself you are much happier now being single.

20. When you secretly know you want a boyfriend....

21. Then you think about that hot actor in the current Netflix series you are watching.

(Ian Somerhalder: aka Damon Salvatore)

22. Start surfing through Netflix thinking it won't take long.

23. Decide to finish the last 10 minutes of the episode you left off on.

24. You see someone you know.

25. Yall talk about anything other than school.

26. A half hour later they leave to let you study.

27. Decide you are tired & need a nap.

28. Instead you decide you need to buy a cup of coffee/hot tea or something to keep you awake and focused on the task at hand: homework.

29. Okay, everything is set up, you have your coffee, music is on point, and you finally decide to study.

30. You read the first page of your homework & realize three hours has passed by and the place is actually closing and you did not get a single thing accomplished...

There is always tomorrow, but the same thing is just bound to happen.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
