Being a girl is hard. In today's society, we're given a set of rules and expectations for our bodies, our face, our hair, our nails, our clothes, our friends, our boyfriends, the list goes on. And if we don't measure up, we're made to believe that we're doing something wrong and we're not good enough. Once we let all that negativity and crap get into our head, we start to believe it and it affects how we feel about ourselves. We tell ourselves horrible things. We look in the mirror or at pictures of ourselves and hate what we see. We make choices that are harmful and destructive because we believe that we don't deserve anything better. We don't respect ourselves. I struggle with all of this and I know there are so many girls out there that do too.
But ladies, when we decide to become Christians, to put our faith in Jesus, the game changes completely. We are God's girls. We don't have to listen to society and what the world thinks. All that matters is what God thinks. Here are 3 verses to cling to when we struggle with our self esteem.
1. Psalm 139:13-14 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
This is one of my favorite verses. How incredible is it that God made us? That He took the time to form every detail of who we are and what makes us unique. I think sometimes we forget how significant that really is. The God of the universe, who is Almighty and greater than all things, loves us enough that He knit us together in our mother's womb. Incredible.
2. Jeremiah 29:11 "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"
Before the world was even created, God knew He was going to make you and He already knew the plan for your life. The Almighty Lord has carefully and lovingly made a plan for your life. So wherever you go, He's already been there, He's already made your path and set out your steps. He loves you that much.
3. Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
We are all broken. We are all sinners. We all deserve to spend eternity in Hell. But, God wasn't cool with that, He wanted more for us. He loves us so much that He made a way for us to spend eternity with Him, He sent Jesus to die so that we didn't have to be separated from Him, even though that's what we deserve. There is no greater love than that.
So ladies, cling to these verses when you are struggling, on the days when you feel worthless and not good enough. Repeat them to yourself over and over again when the horrible thoughts try to roll in. Hide them in your heart. God loves you so much that He created, He sent Jesus to die for you, and He made a plan for your life. He thinks you're beautiful and He thinks you're more than enough.
