The Dominican Republic is known for its paradisiacal beaches and its unique people. However what surprises me the most, is fact that tourists seem to always prefer to visit Punta Cana, a resort city located north of the Dominican Republic.

One of the problems with only visiting this type of cities is that you don’t really get to experience a different culture. You’ll end up spending your trip wondering in beaches, packed with tourists, and under the assumption that you had a real Dominican experience.

Don’t let resorts fool you, they are convenient if the only reason you are traveling to an island is to relax, and be transported to a magical place free of responsibilities. However, if you are considering traveling to the Dominican Republic and want to explore what’s life like in this tropical paradise, consider visiting Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo is the capital of Dominican Republic and there you will be able to experience by yourself places that are not only as relaxing as a resort, but also part of the culture of the country.

So, here are 3 things that you can do in Santo Domingo:

1. Visit the Ciudad Colonial

Considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the most historic neighborhoods in Santo Domingo. This place is perfect if you want to explore old colonial streets or just have a relaxing afternoon eating in a small restaurant next to one of the many landmarks that can be found in this small neighborhood. If you want to explore more than just a few blocks, consider renting a bike. A bike will let you cover all the colonial city, without having to deal with all the complications of having a car, like finding parking or moving across tiny streets.

2. Go to Boca Chica

Here you will be able to do almost anything, interact with locals, try some typical food, braid your hair, and even have a quick massage while resting in your chaise longue. If you go try staying all the way until sunset and then visit places like Neptuno’s Club Restaurant. This restaurant has stairs that go straight to the water and they allow their customers to swim at any time so, you can literally order your food and go for a swim at night while they prepare it.

3. Visit the Malecon

The best place to just breath the salty air of the Caribbean Sea. You can either drive with your windows down or walk on the streets next to the sea. If ever watched the music video of Enrique Iglesia’s Bailando, most likely you saw him, Descemer Bueno, and Gente De Zona, cycling across this place. This location is ideal to observe the sea and just relax while watching the waves crash against the rocks.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
