It has to be brought up because everyone is thinking about it. Even people as young as 18 are complaining about getting older and have absolutely no idea the harm its causing.
I don’t know about you, but I just can't help but bite my tongue at the mere sound of that supremely ignorant phrase. You're actually doing more harm than good.
I know being 29 or 30 is not the same as being a teenager again. But who would really want to relive those years?
Before you utter this ridiculous phrase, take the time to consider these things:
Who exactly are you comparing yourself to?
And, why are you comparing yourself to someone else? They say that comparison is the thief of happiness. And being hard on ourselves actually, decreases completion and greatly reduces motivation. Listen, there is so much to life out there that comparing yourself to that other classmate, friend, or celebrity is literally going to keep you from doing the things you want to do! There are so many people in the world who would give anything to have what you have going on right now.
You're offending others older than you.
When a 25-year-old says to a 45-year-old coworker that she is feeling old, how do you think the 45-year-old woman feels? Or anyone older than her for that matter? It is such a buzz kill, and can even be taken as offensive, and we really don't want to come across as ignorant or vain to anyone.
What am I doing to myself?
Okay this is actually harder to answer. What are you doing with your body? Are you exercising, eating enough vegetables, and getting enough fresh air? Are you getting enough sleep? Is your caffeine intake off the charts?
If you just start keeping track of your physical activity and food intake, you will open a whole new awareness to your life and will gradually start to feel more energized and even feel rejuvenated. With the help of wearable technology, this has never been easier to do!
There's a great book called The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy who explains that small, incremental changes over time can have huge benefits on your mental and physical health! It's absolutely amazing, and I would recommend this book to anyone. Here is a link to access the Habit Assessment and Goal Designing worksheets for free: http://thecompoundeffect.com/resources.php.
Yes, I just threw some master Oogway at you.
Although, you're probably thinking, “Yeah, man, but I still feel old, ya know? Like, whatever man, it's depressing." Maybe it's time to change the way you're thinking, and take a look through a different point of view. You're so much more powerful than you think you are, and you absolutely have no time to be saying you're getting old.
