Like any other college student, I have the tendency to binge-watch TV shows instead of doing productive things with my life (sorry mom). I recently learned that LMU provides HBO-Go to all of their students (go lions), and therefore have collected a list of shows and movies to watch. In conjunction with the Netflix account I use (shout-out to my ex-boyfriend), I have narrowed down my list to the top three shows to binge-watch.
1. The Office (Netflix)
Lately, I have been binge-watching “The Office,” and this show is prime if you’re looking for a good laugh. From Michael’s hilarious conference-room meetings to Jim and Dwight’s prank wars to Pam finally breaking up with Roy (#teamPim/Jam all the way), I’ve watched five seasons thus far and I’m so attached to each of the characters. I don’t know what I’ll do without them when I finish the show.
2. Scandal (Netflix)
I usually alternate what show I’m watching between a comedy and a drama, so next up is “Scandal.” Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope is the strong, independent woman every young girl strives to be. She demands respect and sure as hell receives it from her fellow Gladiators. She teaches you to follow your gut, do what is right, and be fierce as hell (also her steamy affair with Fitz, America’s President, is too good to pass up).
3. Sex and the City (HBO-Go)
Finally, I strongly recommend every human on the planet watch Sex and the City from start to finish. Not only had I grown to love Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, but they became my best friends. I turned to them when I didn’t know what to do in my own (non-existent) love life because, no matter what episode I was watching, it was relevant and uplifting. As Jessie (my binge-watching PIC) would say, “go watch an episode and Carrie will know exactly what you need to hear.”
Similar to most lovers of Sex and the City (SATC if you are up-to-date with hip lingo), you try to compare yourself to which fabulous leading lady you are most compatible with. But really, there is no possible way you can be just one, and that is what makes the show so damn good. You are ever changing and growing just like the four fierce ladies that define “squad goals.” I’d like to think that I’m as loving as Charlotte, but also smart like Miranda, strong like Samantha, and as true to myself as the infamous Carrie Bradshaw, but one can only dream.
I could go on forever about how Carrie ends up with Big (whose name is John?!) or how much Jessie and I cried when Smith shaved his head for Samantha… but I’ll leave that to another day.
To conclude my ode to the perfect HBO series ever, I shall leave you with a quote (the last line of the finale):
"Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous."
