3 Reasons Why We Will Miss Alan Rickman

Few things sting worse than the death of an old friend. While I never knew Alan Rickman personally, I felt that I knew him through the roles he portrayed on screen. Through the lense of his characters, you could sense dedication, kindness, and the ultimate desire to help others. One character that Alan Rickman portrayed will always be my vice. I must admit that I watch Harry Potter every time that it comes on ABC Family - now Freeform - and he will forever be my most cherished character. While the whole world is grief-stricken at this loss, his legacy will forever live on through (at least) these moments in the Harry Potter series.

1. His love for Lilly Potter.

I hate to start off with the worst, but as Snape is dying at the hands of Voldemort he reflects back on his love for Lilly Potter. This is beautifully heartbreaking scene that makes me cry every single time I watch it, but I strongly believe that this was also one of the biggest reveals of the whole story line. Let’s be real, Snape shocked us and made us feel emotional ranges that we did not believe were possible with just one character.

2. When he killed Dumbledore.

Though we all knew that Dumbledore trusted Snape, literally, with his life it was hard to understand why Snape killed off such an amazing man. Snape’s actions in this scene were out of love so much more than hatred. Admittedly, that can be hard to understand if you’ve never seen the films or read the books before. This scene taught me so much about the necessity to hurt people who you care about occasionally. You can see the pain on Snape’s face as he said the words, “Avada Kedavra.”

3. His life outside of HP.

Though Alan Rickman portrayed many great roles, none was as wonderful as playing himself. Mr. Rickman was a man full of laughter and love for others according to those closest with him. It is painful that his last days were spent suffering from cancer, but the hope is that now both him and his family can rest after a trying battle.

No matter the distance of time from this death, Alan Rickman will always be remembered as a kind-hearted man both on screen and off. Today we say our condolences for his family and friends as they mourn this loss.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
