Our furry friends are much wiser than they let on.

3 Life Lessons I've Learned From My Cats
Breanna Bryce

My cats are basically my best friends when I come home from school, and the only reason I'm currently dreading going back. I have always been a cat person, and like most cat people I believe I have the best/cutest/smartest cats that have ever walked the face of this planet, (and yes, they are the best/cutest/smartest cats). As the summer winds down and I try unsuccessfully to beat the heat, I am reminded of my own feline companions in many ways. I guess I never realized how much I had in common with my three babies, Hermione, Minnie, and Danny. Though the three are extremely different, living all together has definitely given us all a similar mindset. Like they always say, great minds think alike. And I can't think of a greater mind than that of a cat.

1. There is never enough sleep to be had.

I caught him mid-yawn.

I am always down for a nap. No matter what time of day, how nice it may be outside, or what the situation is around me. Just like my cats, I can sleep anywhere, at any time, in any ungodly position. However, sleeping at night just seems too convenient. Better to sleep all day, when everyone is out and about, and mess around all night! That way, no one can disturb your slumber, or your playtime.

2. There's always a reason to eat.

"Hey, the food bowl is a quarter empty. Can you fix that please?"

Why limit the pleasure of eating to hunger? There are so many other reasons to eat! Boredom, sadness, loneliness, excitement...the list goes on and on! I find myself having to refill the food bowl almost three times a day, especially since the bowl is apparently empty if you can see the bottom of it. Likewise, I could snack at any moment of the day, but visit the fridge every 10 minutes or so because "there's nothing to eat."

3. Being in the way is the best way to get attention.

For once, she's only sitting in front of the laptop, not on top of the keys.

They always say, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Cats are no exception. If you are being at all negligent, for even just a second, there will probably be a cat plopped onto your keyboard. If I'm not petting her enough, Hermione will whine, and headbutt my hand until she's getting all the attention she deserves. I've found that being in the way is the best way to get what needs to be accomplished. It's easy to be in the right place at the right time if you're always in that place.

So, sure, maybe these are traits that all of our favorite feline friends possess. I'd love to hear similar stories from you, dear reader, if you're willing to share! For now, I'll be spending my remaining days at home snuggled up with my cats, in the comforts of air conditioning, probably taking a nap. We learn so much from our four-legged friends, but I never thought I'd be so close to them!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
