If you're one of the many unfortunate souls who has social anxiety, you will probably relate to a few-- if not all-- of these feelings/situations. From one person with social anxiety to another, happy reading and I'm sorry.


1. Having to give yourself a pep talk before having an social interaction

2. Having to plan out every little thing you say to anyone

3. Sometimes days in advance

4. Sometimes weeks in advance

5. Thinking of a response to every way the conversation or social situation could go

6. Getting flustered when the person you're talking to doesn't follow any part of the script in your head

7. Stuttering uncontrollably

8. All of the sweat

9. Sometimes a little shaking

10. Wondering why you let yourself leave the house

11. Responding to "Enjoy your food" with "Thanks you too"

12. Responding to "Enjoy your drink" with "Thanks you too"

13. Responding to "Enjoy the movie" with "Thanks you too"

14. Responding to literally any closing statement with "Thanks you too" because you don't know how to speak to humans

15. Needing to regulate your breathing when you're around other people

16. Forgetting to breathe because you're too focused on trying to think of a proper response to someone

17. Nodding your head and saying "yes" to someone when you can't hear what they're saying because god forbid you ask them to repeat themselves

18. Agreeing to do literally anything you don't want to do because you don't know how to respond with the word "no"

19. Agreeing to do anything in order to end any social interaction

20. Ordering the same thing over and over again because you don't have the courage to order something else once you get to the front of the line

21. Trying to order something else and stuttering miserably

22. Never going back to any establishment at which you have had a failed social interaction

23. Feeling your body ache when anyone comes to your house

24. Trying to hide in your room to wait out their visit

25. Dying inside when you're called downstairs to say hi

26. Once again forgetting to breathe and trying to find an escape back to your room

27. Having every second feel like an hour

28. Getting back to your room and vowing never to leave it's safety again

29. Until holidays when you have no choice

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
