25 Things We Miss Most About the 2000s

I peaked in middle school... just kidding

25 Things We Miss Most About the 2000s

The 2000s were most of our prime elementary/middle school years, filled with Hollister T-shirts and excessive amounts of Pink Sugar perfume. If you didn't have the latest trend, you were totally not cool and would have to beg your mom to bring you to the store to get the newest Webkinz, even though they were only alive virtually. Here are 25 things that we miss most about the 2000s and wish would make a comeback.

1. Disney Channel movies.

"Zenon," "Halloweentown," "Cadet Kelly," "Gotta Kick It Up," "Smart House"... the list goes on and on. These movies were the best things since sliced bread.

2. Pop stars and boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and Jesse McCartney.

The "Beautiful Soul" music video was the raciest thing I had ever seen at the age of eight.

3. The real Disney Channel and Nickelodeon TV shows.

"Hannah Montana," "That's So Raven," "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," "The Amanda Show", "Zoey 101", "Even Stevens," "Lizzie McGuire," "Jimmy Neutron" -- what would we do without you?

4. AIM.

Filled with screen names like dancergirl44230xxxx and away messages that said "BRB jc w my gfs" or depressing song lyrics like "I never thought I'd die alone another six months I'll be unknown," AIM was the main form of communication and was pretty awesome at the time if you asked me.

5. Silly Bandz.

Rubber bands in the shapes of animals and weird objects... must collect them all!

6. Uggs.

Fact: these do come in handy at college and I still enjoy them (just not the sparkly ones).

7. Blockbuster.

Running through the long aisles of endless movies to pick up the latest Mary Kate and Ashley movie just to find out that some other girl took it out before you could.

8. iPods/ CD players.

There were about seven versions of the iPod and they were all pretty rocking at the time, and don't tell me you forgot about those huge headphones that would wrap around your ears.

9. Juicy Couture sweatsuits

The only thing that was worn during dress-down days at school.

10. Hit Clips.

The real way to listen to music.

11. Livestrong bracelets

It was cool to have about 10 of these suffocating your wrists at all times.

12. Scrunched hair.

Why not put a whole can of mousse in your hair and make it look nice and crunchy?

13. Body glitter

If you didn't cover your body in glitter for all school dances, who were you?

14. Tamagotchi.

Still upset about the death of mine.

15. Razor Scooters

The definition of cool in the 2000s, along with Heelys. (People still use these in college.)

16. Crocs.

Don't forget about all those charms you could put on them. Now those were cool.

17. Limited Too.

Those poop-brown cargo pants and light pink tank top looked simply fabulous together.

18. Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero.

If you could play, "Nine in the Afternoon," on that sick guitar, you should just get out.

19. Britney Spears.

Come on, we all wanted to be her during "Oops I Did It Again."

20. Easy Bake Oven.

An "oven" powered by a light bulb -- safe!!

21. Wonder Ball.

Always a treat.

22. Slap bracelets.

Ok why were these cool?

23. Roller skating rinks.

The only place to have your birthday party.

24. Lip Smackers.

The everyday essential for picture day.

25. Picnik.

A picture was not cool without 50 edits and cool text on top.

I hope this takes all of you back to your childhood and reminds you of all the silly but amazing things we did in the 2000s. Here's to more weird trends and memories in the 2010s!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
