The beginning of summer is always the beginning of babysitting jobs for teenagers and young adults. Three summers into my nannying job, I tend to repeat myself more than I probably should. Four kids do that to you. Although some days can be long, I will forever cherish the time spent with these children. They always put a smile on my face whether it's something silly they are doing or if it's just the pure joy coming off of them. I will forever love my job.
1. What would you like for breakfast?
9/10 Lucky Charms (Marshmallow Mateys) wins.
2. Pick a different show, please.
Every parent and babysitter probably have every word of Thomas the Train, Octonauts, Animal Mechanicals, Rescue-bots and/or Paw Patrol memorized.
3. Let's find something else to do.
For some reason, children think they can watch tv all day...
4. Do you need to go potty?
Oh, the potty dance. Yes, I will make sure that your toys will still be there once you get back.
5. Please clean up your toys once you're done playing with them.
Less mess for later, even though there will still probably be a mess
6. Did you flush and wash your hands?
For some reason, one or both of these gets forgotten...
7. What do you want for lunch?
*tries to pick something that everyone likes and will eat*
8. Before I finish making lunch, I need you to put that away.
Again, less of a mess for later.
9. Yes, you may have the pink/blue/purple plate.
Who knew colored plates could be so popular.
10. Please eat 4 more bites, then you may be done.
I swear, 4-year-olds take the longest to eat some days.
11. What did I just tell you to do?
Kids are forgetful, it happens.
12. What are you doing?
Turn your back for 2 seconds and the children are doing something completely different.
13. Are you ready for a nap yet?
I wish the kids could give me some energy some days.
14. Hey, get that out of your mouth.
Again, you turn your back for 2 seconds...
15. You just had lunch, are you really THAT hungry?
Kids think they need a snack between their snacks and then another one after their snack.
16. Be nice.
Friendly reminder for everyone of all ages.
17. Yes, you may color.
Heck, I'll color with you.
18. Sure, I'll read you a book.
*spends 30 minutes reading super easy books*
19. What do you want for snack?
Followed by: "Yes, you may have a Popsicle"
20. That's a very pretty picture you colored!
*hopes they tell me what it is and doesn't make me guess*
21. Which park do you want to go to?
Perks of being in a relatively small town with 7+ parks
22. You're going to have to tell me what else is at the "seven pony park"
To kids, parks are labeled by their play structures, making you think a little harder at what they are talking about.
23. See you tomorrow!
No matter how long or short days are, there are always little things each day that make you smile and want to spend more days with the children you nanny.
