Seminars can be some of the most exciting course options to take while studying in college. Professors who decide to create a seminar have created this course from scratch because they are highly interested in the special topic. As a result, seminars can offer some very interesting areas of study and perspectives that you otherwise may not have been exposed to in the general required courses for your degree.

While all seminars are designed differently, and ultimately left up to the professor's discretion, every once in a while the seminar is primarily discussion based. As an introvert, classes that are run fully by the idea that everyone is expected to talk for more than a quick sentence or two is kind of terrifying.

Here are 23 thoughts that every introvert has while sitting in their first discussion-based seminar in college.

1. "I wish I would have known that this seminar was going to be discussion-based."

2. "If I don't make eye contact with the professor hopefully I won't be called out."

3. "How do all these people just talk out randomly?"

4. "They make it seem so easy."

5. "Alright, as long as you are looking interested in what everyone else is saying, then you should be fine."

6. "I actually did the reading for today, but people probably don't think I did."

7. "Awkward silence happening now, maybe I should chime in?"

8. "I'm pretty sure that guy just paraphrased the comment before him."

9. "Why talk if you're not going to contribute anything novel?"

10. "How can everyone think so much faster than me?"

11. "I have to be the youngest student in this class."

12. "My professor must hate me."

13. "If I look really focused on my paper, maybe it will just look like I'm thinking."

14. "I should start writing out what I want to say in class before I get here so I'm prepared."

15. "Why is this so nerve-wracking?"

16. "Participation grade will be a zero, but at least I show up to every class."

17. "I actually love the topic of this class."

18. "I'm not the only quiet one here, the boy next to me doesn't talk much either."

19. "Introverts unite!"

20. "Am I really an introvert though?"

21. "At least I'm not looking at the ground like that kid over there."

22. "My first C is going to be in this one-credit hour class."

23. "I'll talk next week, I promise."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
