I am a girl in her twenties who is just now learning about makeup. I must have skipped the phase in middle school when everyone else was experimenting with bright blue eye shadow and shiny lip gloss. High school came around and I would only apply makeup for rare special occasions, like Homecoming or Prom. Even then, I truly didn't always know if what I was doing was right.

The vast amount of cosmetic products, the proper way to apply them, when to apply them, and the different competing brands can be overwhelming when you're first entering the makeup world. What's even more intimidating is stepping foot in a store designated to makeup products.

Here are 22 thoughts you have while shopping in Sephora for the first time ever:

1. "Where do I start?"

2. "Oh no, here comes the store clerk."

3. "No, I don't need any help. Thank you."

Actually, I do.

4. "Is it wrong to purchase this palette just because the outside is gorgeous?"

5. "What even is primer?"

6. "How do I know which brand is the best?"

7. "I'm getting lost."

8. "I can't believe I have never stepped foot in Sephora before!"

9. "The clerk is probably wondering what the heck I'm doing here."

10. "I need a shopping basket."

11. "I don't even wear makeup, why do I feel compelled to purchase all of this?"

12. "I'm going to start wearing makeup daily."

13. "Look at all these other women who know exactly what they're in here for... and then there's me."

14. "Which brush is more important?"

15. "Looks like I'll just get the whole set."

After all, the cute bag it comes with is totally worth it.

16. "I should ask for a makeover."

17. "I'm not even wearing makeup."

18. "I've already been here for two hours?!"

19. "OK, finally made it to the checkout line. But look at all of these bins surrounding it!"

20. "Mini-anything is adorable!"

And a must-have.

21. "Samples, samples, samples!"

22. "Yes, of course, I would like to become a Sephora Insider Member."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
