Twenty years old? That's a milestone. You've made it through the awkward middle school days, the drama-filled high school days, and probably a crazy year or two of college. Your twenties are a weird time; you're still trying to dabble in the transition of having to listen to your parents and them doing everything for you, to trying to figure out adulthood and how to do your own laundry and cooking. With age comes lifelong lessons, newfound intelligence, and wisdom.
Embarking into this journey of adulthood and leaving behind my teenage days, I can't help but reflect on what these twenty years have taught me about not only myself, but life.
Here are 23 things that I've learned about thus far:
1. You can’t redo the most important moments in life, so do them right the first time around.
2. The way that you personally see the world is your own vision; no one else shares that same exact vision.
3. It's okay to not be okay.
4. Sometimes a wrong decision can lead you down the right path.
5. The "one” exists, but there’s more than just one of them out there.
6. If people aren’t adding to your life, they're taking away from your life.
7. Change is always possible.
8. If everyone loves you, you're doing something wrong.
9. Everyone will always have an opinion about everything, but opinions are just opinions, not facts.
10. Good things take time.
11. Life is better when you focus on the important things, and let the rest go.
12. Most people fail not by losing but by giving up.
13. There's always going to be someone better than you out there, someone working harder than you, and doing all they can to reach the same goals you have.
14. Don't settle for anything in life.
15. Appreciate everything you have when you have it because you never know when you'll lose it.
16. Think more and judge less.
17. You're not the only one who doesn't have it all figured out; stop stressing about not knowing what you want to do for the rest of your life.
18. If you don't intend on finishing something, don't start it to begin with.
19. Having a strong bond with your family is everything, but your family doesn't necessarily need to be related by blood.
20. Most people don't care and won't ever care, but there will always be a handful of people who do. Don't let go of those people.
21. It's okay to make mistakes. Everyone hurts, everyone has regrets, and everyone cries. You're not alone in this world; everyone is just trying to figure out their path in life.
22. Your number one priority in life should be you. Do what makes you happy; don't worry about anyone else.
23. You'll never be younger than you are in this exact moment, so live in the moment; be spontaneous and carefree sometimes.
