22 Things That Happen When Your Best Friend is in a Different Sorority

We all love our sisters. In fact, many times, we even find our life-long best friends in them; however, there are some of us who find these best friends in other sororities.

If you're one of these people, you know that this best friendship is different from one you'd have with a sister. There are parts that make it more exciting and parts that make it more frustrating, but you know that no matter what, this friendship is one you treasure above most all.

So here are 22 quick quirks you're sure to know to be true if you're in an inter-sorority best friendship.

  1. You know that the world doesn’t revolve around your sorority.
You’ve got the delicate balance between pride for your house and respect for the others down.
  2. You know everything about your best friend’s sorority.
Colors, founders, philanthropies… name it and you know it.
  3. Similarly, you know everything about her chapter.
This includes not only who all is serving on exec or what the formal theme is, but also every detail of petty drama and sisterly love.
  4. So naturally,  you’re genuinely interested in its wellbeing.
They’re having a fundraiser? You’ll be there. They’re having problems? You want to know how to help.
  5. But you also know when to back off.
Because you understand that no matter how close you are, one does not ever ask about initiation, rituals, or other chapter practices.
  6. You personally know a majority of her sisters.
  7. And if you don’t, you’ve at least heard about them.
  8. Meaning that when you meet someone who you don’t already know, the excitement is very real.
They’re in the same sorority as her so they must be amazing too, right?
  9. And then, obviously, you ask them if they know your biffle.
"It doesn’t matter that you’re from across the country, what do you mean you don’t know her?"
  10. Outfit options are doubled.
That gorgeous dress she wore to her formal (that you know she won’t be repeating anytime soon)? It’s obviously yours when your own formal rolls up.
  11. You have to stop yourself from singing ritual songs in front of her.
Because sometimes, it’s just genuinely difficult to remember that you’re not in the same sorority.
  12. Her sorority automatically becomes your second favorite house on campus.
  13. To the point where you get defensive when someone trash-talks her chapter.
“THEY’RE ALL BEAUTIFUL AND LOVELY AND PERFECT, OKAY?”
  14. You even find yourself cheering her chapter on at Greek Events.
I mean, you know all their cheers thanks to her, so why not?
  15. You get matching BFF letters, obviously.
  16. Meeting other inter-sorority best friends makes you happy.
“Omg we aren’t the only ones….”
  17. You know you’ll always have a date to Date Party.
Because sometimes, boys suck and you just need to dance with your bestie.
  18. The freak-out is very real when you find something related to her sorority while shopping.
“I know I’m not a Kappa but it was blue, had a fleur de lis, and an owl so I had to get it for you.”
  19. People start to think you’re from the same sorority.
And it’s totally understandable considering the amount of time you spend together and how much you know about each-other’s chapters.
  20. You’ve actually considered giving your littles to the same guy so you can be in the same Greek family.
“I don’t care if we’re sisters-in-law or aunts or cousins as long as we’re related."
  21. You realize that your sisters are beautiful, inspiring, and supportive women...
  22. But that they aren’t the only women like that.

Most importantly, the longer you stay best friends, the more you begin to realize that "Panhellenic Love" stops being just an idea thrown around; instead, it becomes a life style.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
