Let's be honest, everyone has that song that they love to hate. Whether it's rational or irrational, from being over-played or from being by that one person you wish would stop releasing new music, everyone I know can think of a handful of songs they enjoy hating (almost as much as they actually dislike the song).
Here are 21 songs that I carefully compiled (by making my friends and roommates sit through dozens and dozens of the most overplayed, annoying songs I could find). You're welcome.
Disclaimer: Some of these songs I may or may not enjoy listening to occasionally.
1. "Friday" by Rebecca Black
How else do you expect me to start off this list? You'd be lying if you said this song didn't cross your mind at the end of the week.
2. "Baby" by Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris
This song can't be THAT bad with over a billion views on YouTube. Or can it?
3. "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen
This song holds a special place in my heart due to the fact it was featured in the Call Me Maybe Mighty Squat Challenge. Try it. I dare you.
4. "Tik Tok" by Kesha
Ahhh, Kesha. The party girl. The one who brushes her teeth with whiskey and wears glitter like an accessory. (Wondering where Kesha went since she seems to have disappeared the last few years? It's more serious than you think.)
5. "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction
It makes me slightly uncomfortable to know that I am now older than all of the members of One Direction were when they made this music video.
6. "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars
I'll admit this song is an excellent song, it is just the most over played song on the radio right now (in my humble opinion).
7. "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley
Everyone loves making fun of this song to the point it became part of a meme. If you haven't heard of "rickrolling," where have you been?
8. "What Does The Fox Say" by Ylvis
This song came out two years ago and I still have no words to describe it. I still have no idea what is going on, but I'm glad people have stopped singing "RING DING DING DING DING DING DING."
9. "When I'm Gone (Cups)" by Anna Kendrick
No one cares you can do the thing with the cup. No one cares.
10. "Barbie Girl" by Aqua
Don't get me wrong, this is a great song to sing while at sleepovers or with friends, but I love to hate it just as much as the next guy.
11. "Let It Go" performed by Idina Menzel
This is probably the only song on this list that I do not hate whatsoever (but it seems like ever single other person I know hates it with a passion and isn't afraid to say so).
12. "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus
Look at his hair. Just look at it.
13. "#SELFIE" The Chainsmokers
Although most people don't take it seriously, it is a pretty fun song to have playing in the background while getting ready.
14. "Gangnam Style" by Psy
This isn't the first or last "dance craze" song people will love to hate. It isn't even the only one on this list.
15. "Superbass" by Nicki Minaj
I've heard this song more times than every other Nicki Minaj song combined. That's saying something.
16. "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke ft. T.I. and Pharrell
This song may deserve to be hated in some peoples' opinion (copying Marvin Gaye's song, some say encouraging date rape) but you have to admit it is catchy.
17. "Harlem Shake" by Baauer
I almost feel bad for putting this song on the list because it is only the first thirty seconds or so that I've heard more times than I can count, but alas it has made it on the list...
18. "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt
Once again, this is a wonderfully written, heartfelt ballad that has become the brunt of many jokes and we can't help but make fun of it.
19. "My Humps" by The Black Eyed Peas
If you didn't listen to this in middle school, did you even middle school?
20. "It's A Small World"
I 100 percent love hating this song. I was forced to play it in middle school band so I would like to think I have earned the right to dislike it.
21. "Happy Birthday"
Last but not least, the most awkward song in existence. I do not know anyone who enjoys the awkward 45 seconds of pain while you sit watching people sing to you. Do you sing along? Do you clap? Do you try to slide under the table?
