21 Reasons Why You Should Consider Quitting Social Media

Over a month ago, I realized that social media was no longer benefitting me and then thought about how it never even really did benefit me, so I decided to quit all the apps I used to live for. Quitting social media was one of the best decisions I made and I understand that it's not for everyone, but it's something to consider.

1. It brings you excitement, but not happiness.

2.You spend more time coming up with a 140-character tweet rather than a message to a loved one.

3. You care more about the followers you have rather than the true friends that will be there for you when electricity is nonexistent.

4. You’re comparing your life to people who are probably just as bored as you.

5. You’re living a lie because that picture took 15 tries, not one quick snapshot.

6. You haven’t read a non-school related book in over a year.

7. You can’t go to bed before midnight.

8. You haven’t met any one of your significant others in person first.

9. You can’t put your phone down even when you’re with the only people you’re constantly communicating with.

10. You feel you have to share every moment of your life even though you don’t even care about most of your friend’s moments.

11. You see most of life through your camera’s lens.

12. You can’t ask your friends what they’ve been up to because you already know the answer.

13. You creep on people that are out of your life for a reason.

14. You’re not actually benefitting from anything you do online.

15. You post things just to get reassurance that you’re attractive… you are and you don’t need insignificant people to tell you otherwise.

16. You have trouble focusing on important things.

17. You have unrealistic expectations of things.

18. You compare everything you do to those who shouldn’t matter.

19. You’re lonely even when you have 500 ‘friends.’

20. You want more out of life.

21. You know what’s good for you and social media is not the answer.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
