So 2016 is shaping up to be an eventful year for Portland’s concert scene. Various legendary musicians will be performing throughout the year, with many more slated to be announced, along with countless other lesser known musicians. Even though we’re less than 100 days into the new year, countless artists such as David Crosby, Patti Smith, Carly Rae Jepsen, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Justin Bieber have already performed in Portland.
Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing The Who (May 17, Moda Center), Paul Simon (May 25, Schnitzer Hall) and Brian Wilson (Oct. 2nd, Schnitzer Hall). The Who were supposed to play the Moda Center on Sept. 24, but that was postponed due to lead singer Roger Daltrey becoming ill with Meningitis. The Who are performing as part of their 50th anniversary tour "The Who Turns 50!"
Paul Simon, fresh after a European tour with Sting last year, has recently announced a North American tour with a stop in Portland. While here, Mr. Simon will be promoting his new album "Stranger To Stranger," as well as his older hits as a solo artist and as part of the duo, Simon & Garfunkel.
Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys album "Pet Sounds" with a world tour. Pet Sounds spawned some of the Beach Boys most popular songs, including "Sloop John B," "God Only Knows" and "Wouldn’t It Be Nice." Mr. Wilson plans for this to be his last performance of his masterpiece album.
If I can afford it, I will try to go see Paul McCartney, who recently announced a North American tour. This will be the first time Mr. McCartney has performed in Portland since 2005. I will also try and see Flight Of The Conchords, who will be performing new material, as well some of their older hits.
Listed below are the name of the musician(s) who will be performing throughout the year, the date of the performance, the venue where the performance will be hosted at and cost for the cheapest ticket.
