Many people ring in the New Year with family, friends and lots of adult beverages. The main thing that comes with the new year is resolutions. Resolutions are a chance for people to tell themselves and others that they are going to change some way or how, we all know the “I’m going to go on a diet” or “I am going to go to the gym” resolutions. Now a days resolutions have become more of a fad than the intended lifestyle change. Here are 5 ways to assure that you actually stick with your New Years Resolution.
1. Set a Realistic Resolution.
Challenge yourself with your resolution but don't be to hard on yourself. Being practical about your goals will result in your desire to stick to your resolution.
2. Be Optimistic About Your Resolution.
If you are not excited about your resolution there is no way it will last longer than two weeks. I know you must be thinking well how do I be optimistic about going to the gym or losing weight? Easy! You can go with a buddy, I bet you are not the only friend with your eyes on the best beach body.
3. No Days Off.
Do not, do not, do not tell yourself “I’ll start tomorrow” or “Today is a cheat day” No! You are setting yourself up for failure with these phrases. Set a resolution and stick to it. It is going to be hard at first but having discipline will lead you that much closer to a happier life style.
4. Remind Yourself Of Your Resolution.
Whether you want to lose weight or get yourself to stop texting that ex- boyfriend remind yourself of your resolution. Leave post it notes where you will see them every day to keep yourself in check with your goals.
5. Hold Yourself Accountable.
We are human, mistakes and slip-ups are bound to happen. Rather than just brushing it off hold yourself accountable for your actions. Have a consequence or a way for you to redeem yourself if you experience a brief moment of amnesia and forget what your resolution is.
Resolutions are about changing yourself for the better. They are not supposed to be a fad. They are a way for you to set a goal and challenge yourself to follow through with it. I promise you, stick with your resolution. It is going to be hard, there is no doubt about it, but imagine the great feeling and pride that you will exhibit when you tell people that your New Years Resolution has become a way of life.
I wish a Happy and Healthy New Year to all and hopefully you’ll make it past two weeks with your resolution!
