There are days when I realize just how blessed I am to have a mother like my own. I feel as though when I get older, I could never be half the mother as my mom has been to me. And I wonder how I got so lucky to have her around, day in and day out, to guide me and love me through life.
Being a mother, I know is not only a selfless job, but a thankless one. We often find ourselves taking advantage of our own mother and that fact that she always is right there for us, having our back though life.
Although my list could be endless, here are 20 things that we don’t thank our mothers for enough.
- Teaching me it’s good to stand up for myself.
- Being more than just my mom, but my friend.
- Sacrificing so much for me.
- Listening to all the unimportant things that mattered to me then, but not anymore.
- Staying strong when it was hard to.
- Never giving up on me.
- Instilling values in me.
- Making me laugh when I needed it.
- Always being there, through the good and bad.
- Always showing patience with me (because I know it must have been hard at times).
- Being someone I could always look up to in life.
- Being someone, one day, my child can look up to, as well.
- Always checking on me when you know I’m not okay.
- Being my No. 1 fan for everything!
- Teaching me to always try my best.
- But making sure I understand no one will be perfect.
- Making sure I grew up knowing God.
- Not getting upset when I made a mistake
- Having faith in me when I didn’t have faith in myself.
- Loving me unconditionally.
I could go on forever, but my point is, moms do a lot that we often overlook or don’t take the time to acknowledge them for. Ever since I can remember, my mother has been there for me, never once complaining. And although I can’t begin to tell her "thank you" enough, I pray that one day she will be able to see just how thankful I am for all she has done for me, by my actions as a mother with my own children, too. I pray that I am a mother like her; a mother who is selfless, understanding and loves unconditionally.
Thank you, Mom, for being you and for loving me no matter what.
