19 Things I've Learned In My First Year at Anderson University

Anderson University is getting out for summer in the next week or two, and from what I can tell, it's definitely true what they say about college - it goes quickly. Over the past two semesters, there have been many high points, rough patches, failed quizzes, and close friendships made, and it has all been so worth it. And approaching my final days for the school year has made me reflect on the things I've learned in the past year.

Things like...

1. Spring means little inch worms all over you at all times.

2. Campus Christmas decorations are on point.

3. In many situations, AU is as enjoyable as you make it.

4. Trays in the Caf are always wet.

5. There are really good days for the cookies.

6. FFT spinach wraps are delicious.

For the first hundred times.

7. J.J. is the kindest man in the world.

So make sure you say "hey" when you see him around campus!

8. Mrs. Becky will treat you like you're her best friend whether she knows you or not.

9. Mr. Scott Taylor genuinely cares about the students of AU.

10. C.H. will make your Trojan Transit ride 100x better.

And he will try his very hardest to learn everyone's names.

11. The classrooms on the top floor of Merritt are prime for studying.

For when you need a change in scenery for your endless hours of studying

12. In most cases, your professors genuinely care about your success.

13. Registration will bring you together like nothing else can.

14. No one likes RSVP, and it's fine.

15. There are always things to complain about, but there are more things to be thankful for.

16. You're challenged to grow outside of academics.

17. The lawn will always be in pristine condition.

18. There's a church on every street near campus.

19. AU really tries to make finals week bearable.

Mrs. Whitaker brings cookies, there are puppies on campus, and Scott Taylor sends us encouraging emails. Finals week isn't really so bad, is it?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
