My life may have been short to some, and I do not know if I can call myself wise, but I have learned much in 2 decades.

20 Things I Am Grateful I Learned By 20
First Born

Turning 20 is an interesting feeling. First of all, I am OFFICIALLY no longer a teenager, I am an adult and that alone is extremely terrifying.

The world that once seemed so big as a child now seems so much smaller and opportunities more within reach. It is funny to think that I have lived 2 whole decades and done so much, yet seen and experienced so little. But above all, the craziest thing is that although my life on this earth may seem shorter to some who have lived longer, this short life has already taught me so much.

It is my hope that some of these little life lessons will resonate with some, and that I can continue to live life and discover the lessons my future holds.

1. Time Flies, Make The Most Of It.

I may have lived 2 decades, but it definitely feels like WAY less.

2. Don't Be Afraid Of Trying New Things.

Trying new things can be scary, but don't let that keep you from discovering what things could change your life. Trying new things is one of the best things you can do in your life! Whether it be to try some new food or go on a crazy adventure. Take the leap and do it! I promise you will not regret it!

3. Choose Your Friends Wisely.

As I have gotten older, I have learned to be more cautious with those who I choose to let in my life. Not everyone is who they say they are.

4. It's Okay To Be Wrong.

Enough said.

5. Nothing Worth Having Comes Easily.

If there is one thing that I have learned within these 20 years is that anything worth having has to be worked for and things that come easily, are not always worth having.

6. Every New Day Comes With The Promise Of A New Beginning.

This is a factor that I believe keeps so many people in this world going. The promise of the sun rising is a gentle reminder that brings peace to so many people. No matter what you did yesterday, it is in the past and all we have to look forward to is our future.

7. Smile Often.

It's scientifically proven to make people happy! Plus, its the best accessory one can wear.

8. Make Time To Exercise Regularly

It's good for your health, both mentally and physically.

9. Rome Wasn't Built In A Day, Great Things Take Time.

Like previously stated in number 5, nothing worth having comes easy and just as they do not come easy they also often take a lot of time, dedication, and patience.

10. Pursue What Truly Makes You Happy, But Recognize The Difference Between Temporary Happiness and Long-Term Happiness.

We only live one life and it is unfortunate that our one life seems to go by so quickly. So make the most out of this one life! Do what you love, and love what you do.

11. Life Is Short, Eat That Piece Of Cake.

I know it might not be your cheat day, but life is short, eat that piece of cake and enjoy it!

12. Not Everyone Is Going To Like You.

SO TRUE .

13. Don't Allow Your Fears To Rule Your Life.

This one goes back to number 2 a little bit. It is so easy for us to live our lives in fear, but where is the fun in that?

14. Admit Your Wrongs.

Pride is like a poison.

15. Apologize For Your Faults.

Back to number 14.

16. Treat Yourself.

You've had a long day and you've made it this far in life! Now treat yourself!

17. Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe.

Put out good energy and positive vibes and you will attract good and positive people! But, if you give off negative energy and are not a positive influence you will attract those who are the same way.

18. Having An Awesome Group Of People To Hang With All The Time Is Awesome, But Make Sure You Take Time To Be With Yourself.

In our current society, I find that so many people are afraid to be left alone. Afraid to suffer from FOMO and afraid to discover and learn things about themselves that might be discovered by spending some quality time alone. Trust me, I used to be the same way! But, recently I really started to value the importance of alone time and self-meditation in one's daily life. Shut out the noise and just learn to be comfortable enough with yourself and become comfortable in your own skin.

19. Never Underestimate The Power Of Friendship Or Family.

I am overwhelmed and taken aback by the power that is in friendship and family. It is a power and entity that should never be underestimated and always be appreciated.

20. If You Need Help Always Ask. It Is Better To Ask For Help Then Allow Yourself To Fail Because Of Your Own Pride Or Fear.

To be 100% honest, this last lesson took me a long time to learn. While I still do struggle with this lesson a bit I have learned the importance of it. After all, being independent and self-sufficient is great, it is just in some of those moments that we allow our pride to sit in the driver's seat and force our brains and emotions to sit in the back. If you need help ALWAYS ASK. You will not regret it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
