22 Signs You Went To Bishop Heelan
Sioux City Problems

Bishop Heelan Catholic High School is truly a unique place. It is the only private high school in Sioux City, IA and has various aspects that make it stand out. Yes, every public school in the surrounding area hates us, but many will never understand what it was like to attend Heelan unless you experienced it firsthand. Whether you loved your experience or hated it, I'm sure we can all relate to the following things:

1. When you told someone you were from Heelan, they'd either roll their eyes or give a rude comment and try to claim their school was better.

2. By the end of your four years you proudly claimed to be a "recruit."

3. Sitting through 90-degree days with no air conditioning. However, most of the time this meant early dismissal for heat, so it balanced out.

4. Four. Flights. Of. Stairs.

5. The huge rivalry with East and Le Mars.

6. Dominating all sports and other schools always claiming we recruit or we paid the officials.

7. Pizza Wednesdays were the highlight of the week.

8. If you got away with chewing gum in the library, you know it was a big deal. Sister Colane seemed to have eyes everywhere.

9. The only sport it felt like Heelan had: FOOTBALL.

10. Mr. Burchard teaching you the word, "ergo" "THEREFORE"

11. Mastering the four-minute passing period and knowing exactly how much time you had to mess around and get to class on time.

12. You know the school colors are old gold and blue. Not just blue and gold.

13. You failed to realize that the emblem H.C. didn't stand for Heelan Crusaders, but rather C.H., Catholic High. When you found out, you refused to believe it and still do to this day.

14. No matter how many years have passed, you can still sing the fight song word for word. "We sing a victory song for the old gold and blue. We are your sons and daughters fighting for you...."

15. The Heelan honk.

16. The Heelan clap.

17. Losing your voice in the Pit at basketball games.

18. At one point in your career, you tried to find the pool.

19. You secretly loved the uniforms, but jeans day was such a freedom. Even if you still had to wear a Heelan t-shirt.

20. Tucking in your shirt has become second nature because for four years you could get detention if it was seen un-tucked.

21. Tuesdays meant all school mass day and every Tuesday it seemed like everyone got sick or overslept for school.

22. Whether you loved your experience or hated it, you'll always be a Heelan alum. And no matter what, you know you'll always be part of the Heelan family.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
