A few weeks ago I received an email from the Carrier Dome box office about purchasing a ticket to Rock The Dome on November 4th. Being a freshman, I had no clue what Rock The Dome was.

This year's headliner for Rock The Dome was The 1975, a popular band from Manchester, England. Unlike Juice Jam, the headliner actually showed up (sorry Fetty). The openers were 070 Shake and Oh Wonder. As the concert went on, it got better musically and aesthetically. Honestly, whoever was in charge of the set design for the concert- congratulations, you are amazing at your job!

Personally, I thought The 1975 was the best act of the night. They played songs from both of their albums, “The 1975” and “ like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful." An iconic part was when Matty Healy, the lead singer of the band, gave a speech about young Americans voting in the upcoming election.

The amazing part of this was that he took at least six minutes out of his set to politically relate England's current political situation, Brexit, and the United States' upcoming presidential election. He encouraged eligible young people, aka most Syracuse students, to make a difference and vote. It was iconic because usually pop stars don't bring politics into their careers because they are afraid of losing part of their fan base. Yet, Healy, who is not even able to vote in this country, still made an effort to persuade people to vote. Although you could tell his political stance in his speech, he did not forwardly say democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Between the music, set design, and Matty Healy's speech if you didn’t go to Rock The Dome, you missed a great concert!
