When you think of monumental birthdays you think about 16, 18, and 21. But, there's one that is skipped. You don't get any new privileges but it still is pretty important. At 16 you get your license, at 18 you're an adult, and at 21 you can legally drink. But, your last year as a teen just might be the best year of your life.
19
It's been a year since you can purchase lottery tickets and tobacco products. You're still two years away from being able to buy alcohol. So, what makes 19 so special?
It is your last year to be considered a teenager. Yes, once you hit 18, you are technically an adult. But, you are still in your teen years.
At 19, you have been exposed to the world. You are out of high school and either in college pursuing a degree or you have a job and are out in the real world. You learn so much when and by the time you are 19.
So here's 19 reasons being 19 is the best:
1. You have solid friendships.
2. You recognize that everyone is different and so are you.
3. You are still technically a teen but get some adult privileges.
4. You have the whole world at your finger tips.
5. It is your time. Your time to be selfish and focus on you.
6. While you have learned many life lessons there are still more out there for you to experience.
7. You can make a mistake and still be able to rebound from it.
8. You recognize that you are a part of something bigger and so is everyone else.
9. You value money.
10. You begin to see your parents as role models for a future you wish to have.
11. You accept that everyone has their own voices inside them and they might not match up with yours.
12. You refer to your new dorm or apartment as home.
13. You develop opinions on "grown up" things.
14. You begin to engage in political conversations and recent events you saw in the news.
15. You no longer have to sit at the kiddie table.
16. You have your own life.
17. You don't expect anything special to happen at 19 so of course something does.
18. You can realistically start planning for your future.
19. You learn who you are and who you want to be.
