October has finally arrived. From football and bonfires, to falling leaves and sweater weather, October is easily my favorite month of the year, but the one thing that makes October inherently special is Halloween. Though I wasn't the biggest fan of Halloween as kid (I was scared of everything), I always loved Halloween movies. So here's a list of 18 movies from your childhood that will prepare you for All Hallows Eve and give you that warm, fuzzy feeling of nostalgia.
1. "Halloweentown," "Calibar's Revenge," "Halloweentown High."
The "Halloweentown" series is the crown jewel of Disney Channel's Halloween movies. I know I didn't include the fourth one on the list, but it's pretty much irrelevant without the OG Marnie.
2. "Under Wraps."
Mummies have feelings, too.
3. "Don't Look Under the Bed."
Disney Channel doesn't show this one anymore and for good reason: it's actually kinda scary, especially for kids. But you're not a kid anymore, so look under the bed all you want to.
4. "Tower of Terror."
Like "Don't Look Under the Bed," "Tower of Terror" isn't shown on Disney Channel anymore, but it's the first movie Disney made based on one of their theme park and it's a perfect, ghostly mystery.
5. "Mom's Got a Date With a Vampire."
This vampire was a charmer before Edward Cullen was even a thought.
6. "Twitches."
Twin. Witches. TWITCHES!
7. "The Haunted Mansion."
This is one of the last movies Eddie Murphy was actually funny in. Cherish it.
8. "Monsters Inc."
This isn't really a Halloween movie, but monsters.
9. "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
Leave it to Tim Burton's to twist not one, but two holidays into a quirky horror fantasy.
10. "Edward Scissorhands."
Though the argument can be made that this is more of a Christmas movie, it's a stupid one. The man has scissors for hands. SCISSORS.
Talk about a killer Halloween costume, am I right?
11. "Beetlejuice."
I was terrified of this movie when I was a kid. Saying "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" would send me into hysterics.
However, it is now one of my favorite movies.
12. "Casper."
Casper proved that ghosts can be friendly, but also a bit creepy in a different way than usual.
13. "The Little Vampire."
Admit it -- as kids we all thought it would be cool to have a vampire as a best friend. Even cooler than that, though, would've been a vampire cow as a pet.
14. "The Addams Family."
Badadadum badadadum badadadum. (Snap, snap.)
They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky, the Addams Family.
15. "Ghostbusters."
Who ya' gonna call?
16. "Hocus Pocus."
I have indeed saved the best for last. If you watch no other movie on this list in preparation for Halloween, watch this one. I can not think of one valid reason why this isn't the greatest Halloween movie of all time (it's so good ABC Family plays it all year long). If you have yet to be bewitched by the Sanderson Sisters, just let 'em put a spell you already!
