Unpopular opinion alert!!!! Music is pretty dope. It brings people together, it can pump you up, it can calm you down, and sometimes it can make you super emotional. I’m not someone who cries a lot or even properly expresses my emotions but I still ~feel~ things, and the following list of songs is one of the few things that do it for me.
1. “Timshel” by Mumford & Sons
This song takes inspiration from the book “East of Eden” by John Steinbeck, which happens to be one of my favorite books of all time. The phrase “timshel” means “thou mayest” which basically means that man is given the choice between good and evil.
2. “Like Real People Do” by Hozier
3. “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones
Who can resist tearing up when Merry Clayton hits those high notes?
4. “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
5. “Casimir Pulaski Day” by Sufjan Stevens
It’s a song about his girlfriend dying of cancer, how could you not get emotional? Also, once the trumpets come in, you’ll be sobbing. I guarantee it.
6. “Deadwater” by Wet
7. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen
Ah, the song to which we were all born knowing the lyrics.
8. “Soak Up The Sun” by Sheryl Crow
9. “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton
Okay, so this one may be specific to me because it was my parent’s first dance at their wedding. Sure I wasn’t there, but it still makes me super emotional. Congratulations, you caught me, I’m a huge sap.
10. “The Story” by Brandi Carlile
11. “See You Again” by Tyler, The Creator (feat. Kali Uchis)
For anyone who still thinks rap can’t be beautiful I would highly recommend you take a listen to this little number.
12. “We Belong” by Pat Benatar
13. "Fancy Shoes" by The Walters
14. “Linger” by The Cranberries
My mom played The Cranberries a lot when I was little, okay? Let’s move on before this gets any more sentimental.
15. “Wanna Ride” by Dan & Drum
16. “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman
It’s a song about a girl who wasn’t given a lot of opportunities in life and just wants to make something for herself.
17. “Ada” by The National
18. “Come To My Window” by Melissa Etheridge
I don’t even have a logical explanation for this one, it just gives me the most overwhelming wave of nostalgia.
Give these songs a listen and feel free to let me know if you get emotional. Bonus points if you cry.
