17 Things I'm Thankful For

There's never a bad time to count your blessings.

Thanksgiving may be over, but there's never a bad time to count your blessings! Here's a list of some things in my life that I'm thankful for!

1. Books.

Ask anyone that knows me, I'm obsessed with books. My friends tease me about being a "book collector" since I haven't read even half of what's found on my shelves. Hey, I'm getting there!

2. Writing.

I'm super grateful that I took Creative Writing 1 in community college. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here writing for the wonderful Odyssey community! Writing is so appealing to me because it's open-ended. You can create anything and make a little part of the universe yours.

3. Feelings.

My personality type is INFJ, and that means my life is highly driven by experiences and feelings. I want to live life to the fullest and feel all the feels. Socrates once said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." Get out there, make mistakes, feel things, and then reflect; that's life.

4. Dogs.

They're fluffy...they're cute...they're warm! What else do you need?

5. Family.

No matter what life throws at you, the fam is always there.

6. Friends.

#SQUADGOALS! These guys are the family that you get to choose!

7. Food.

Yeah, food is "fuel for our bodies." Awesome. It also tastes really good!

8. Art.

My mom and I recently discovered a new hobby that we can pursue together--painting ceramics! Last week we painted little Christmas trees! I'm thankful that we found an experience to enjoy together and make something we'll both have forever.

9. Music.

One of the most beautiful parts of life is music. I've discovered that there's a song out there for every moment in life, even if you're just sitting on a park bench.

10. Poetry.

My honest to goodness one true love. Friends, I would not be writing to you today if it weren't for this beautiful art form called free verse poetry. It's unlike any other sort of expression; filling blank pages with words that set you free and allow you to bare your soul.

11. Post Malone.

The hair! The grills! His music is catchy, and he doesn't take himself too seriously. We need more people like Post Malone.

12. Netflix.

Thank you, Netflix, for capitalizing on modern society's need for instant gratification. Binge watching entire seasons within an 8-12 hour span is arguably one of the most precious human experiences!

13. Maria Bamford.

I can't stop singing this woman praises! She's ridiculous in the best way possible. If you don't know who she is, please watch Lady Dynamite on Netflix when you need a laugh!

14. NBA Basketball.

An entirely different form of entertainment in its own right, the NBA is non-stop action and drama--especially during the Playoffs and Finals. Basketball will always be my favorite sport; it's a part of who I am.

15. Philadelphia Flyers.

I'm a fairly new hockey fan and I went to my first game last week (Thanks, Mom!). This sport is LIT! I don't remember the last time I've screamed so loud when my team scored at a sporting event.

16. Freedom.

One thing's for sure: I wouldn't be able to enjoy any of these fantastic blessings without the freedom that my country has given me. As divided as we may seem, I'm so thankful to be an American.

17. God.

I'm ending this list with the most important blessing in my life. From the air that I breathe, my able body, my working mind, and everything else, I wouldn't have any of it if it weren't for the grace of God.

Today and every day, remember to count your blessings, and stay thankful!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
