Before starting freshman year, I’m sure you contacted your roommate about the logistics of move-in day, who is going to bring what, let’s get matching bedspreads, etc.…but even though you learned her favorite color and stalked her Pinterest boards, you probably still did not have a very accurate idea of who she is. Whether you went “random,” or picked your roommate carefully from her bio on the college freshmen Facebook page, there is only so much you can know about someone before you start living with them. Disclaimer: This list is a compilation of my own experiences, experiences of some friends. This post is by no means is completely about my own roommate. Without further ado, 16 things you didn’t know about your roommate before move-in day:
1. Her family

2. Her music.
She says she likes Taylor Swift, Adele, and Ed Sheeran, but she’s comfortable enough around you to play her oldies music, too.
3. Her style.
When you see her walking around campus in a flannel, leggings and Birkenstocks, you know she must be feeling a little bit under the weather.
4. Her study habits.
If I ever have take Chem, I’ll know who to ask for help.
5. She gives excellent advice.

6. Favorite ice cream flavor.
‘Nough said.
7. She’s the kind of person who shakes up the coffee creamer before putting it in her coffee.
8. Shower times
Is she a morning person, or a night owl?
9. Her laugh.
You can find your roommate anywhere on campus just by following the sound of her laugh.
10. Her conception of cleanliness.
Roommates fall into four categories: Super neat, super not, the shock-and-awe cleaner (you walk out of the room, its messy, you come back an hour later, it’s spotless), and the ebb-and-flow cleaner (the room gradually gets messy and then gradually gets clean).
11. Favorite Show.
" Gilmore Girls" all the way.
12. Eating habits.

13. You know each other’s best (and worst) camera angles and take pictures accordingly.
14. You have code words for when you are ready to get out of somewhere
“It’s nice weather we’ve been having…”
