I grew up in Morrisville, North Carolina. For those of you, the many of you, who aren't sure where that is, it's right next to Cary which is fifteen minutes from Raleigh, the capital city. I'm basically from the epitome of suburbia.

North Carolina is technically a southern state, but I never really felt like a 'southern gal' until I came up north. I play softball and a lot of my teammates were from the more rural areas of the Carolinas, so I was certainly exposed and privy to some of the stereotypical 'southern' culture, but I didn't realize what Northern Yankees really thought of us until my first semester at Fordham University in the Bronx.

Here are some of the most common questions and comments I and others from Southern states have probably heard at least once or twice since their migration. These are mostly over-used stereotypes, but trust me, I've actually heard them all.

1. "Have you ever seen snow before?"

2. "Do you have, like, a southern accent?" or "You don't really have an accent..." or "Oh my God, you have such a strong accent" (or just anything about the Southern accent)

3. "Did you vote for Donald Trump?" "Are you republican?" "Are your parents racist?" "Did you grow up with Confederate flags?"

4. "Do you live on a farm?" or "Are there lots of farms near you?" or "Have you ever ridden a tractor?" "Did you ride horses?"

5. "Why did you even come up North? It's warmer down there."

6. "Are you sure you're going to be warm enough?"

7. "Do they have Wegmans or Greggs down there?" or "They have Dunkin Donuts in the South, too, right?"

8. "Do you like country music?"

9. "What's Bojangles?" or "What's Cook Out?"

10. "What does sweat tea taste like?"

11. "Are you Baptist or Methodist?"

12. "Have you ever tried real Italian food?" or something about how "You haven't had real pizza."

13. "Have you ever ridden in a subway before?" "A train?" "A bus?" "A plane?" "Do you drive a truck back home?"

14. "Roll Tide?"

15. "Why are you always so nice even to strangers?"

16. "Do you own a gun?" "Have you shot a gun?"

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
