I've worked with kids most of my life as an aspiring teacher, but that has heavily increased over the last two years through my job at a preschool/daycare and partnership program. If you haven't worked with kids, not only are you missing out, but you fail to recognize that kids are really just tiny comical drama queens.

1. "Come on Elsa! Get it together!"

Dress up is intense y'all.

2. "Ms. Emily I want to play with that car that ____ has."

Of course, this is after I've explained six different times that day that they have to wait and take turns.

3. "I have to poop."

Depending on the age of the child, this simple sentence can go one way or the other in a matter of seconds.

4. "They cut off all my baby hairs."

A recent favorite from a three year old I work with who got her first hair cut over the holidays.

5. "You're in trouble_____!"

Even though the child is already sitting down with a teacher being talked to.

6. "_____ said a potty word!"

I can't be the only one expecting it to be way more serious than butt or poop.

7. "I want to listen now."

and

8. "But I want to now."

Again, this isn't your first rodeo.

9. "It wasn't an accident."

Just because Jimmy's ball landed near your feet and bounced up at your face does not mean he is out to kill you. Relax.

10. "I didn't say nothing."

Even though they said exactly what they shouldn't have and they know it.

11. "I want to go home and take a nap."

Really? Because you've been at school for barely 60 minutes and we haven't done anything yet.

12. "Why are you wearing that?"

...because I wear this ring/watch daily.

13. "Can I try?"

No, I'd rather pour the heavy pitcher of ice cold water myself instead of clean it up off the floor in five minutes.

14. "Ms. Emily, I need some ranch!"

I really don't think children know how to eat anything without ranch dressing to dip it in.

15. "Why do I have to take a nap?"

There are hundreds of reasons, which one would you like?

16. "I don't like ______."

But you ate it last week...

Working with kids is a very rewarding experience and one I wouldn't trade for the world. The little comedians I spend my time with make for an interesting time any day of the week. The cuddles and love are also a plus, of course.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
