Long drives can be really fun or really boring depending on how you spend your time. There's times when you want to keep asking, "Are we there yet?" and other times where it seems like time flew by. Well, as I road trip from southern California to Long Island, New York to return to college, I can't help but think about other ways to keep me entertained for the long drive, so here are 15 ways things to do while sitting in the car for long journeys.
1. The license plate game
You probably played this as a kid, but it can still be fun if you add your own twist to it.
2. Karaoke
Pretend you're on an episode of "Carpool Karaoke" with James Corden.
3. Punch-Buggy
It's a classic car-game for a reason.
4. I Spy
It's a lot harder when you're speeding down the freeway and your view changes all the time.
5. Make up situations
Ex. If a car has been behind you for a while you can pretend they're your stalker and you're trying to get away from them. (Just don't break any laws, like speeding, in the mean time though.)
6. The ABC Game
Try and find every letter of the alphabet, in order, using only items outside your car (I.e. road signs, license plates, building names, etc.).
7. Name that tune
Let one passenger take over the radio and pick random songs to play. Everyone else has to guess the song without looking at the title on the radio. Extra challenge: sing/hum the song instead of actually playing it.
9. Would You Rather
For an extra twist, make every question relate to the environment around you.
10. Play Connections
Pick two random objects/people and make the connect somehow. Ex: cows & spoons - Cows produce milk. You use milk to eat cereal. You use a spoon to eat cereal.
11. Build a story
Every passenger contributes on line to the story at a time. Try to keep the story going until you reach your destination.
12. Two Truths and a Lie
You can also switch it up and do two lies as a truth.
13. Make a short story using words from signs/billboards
Or make a poem or song. Bonus points if you can create one using only words from signs/billboards.
14. Where in the World Am I?
Pick a place and describe it in detail without revealing where it is. The other passengers have to guess where you chose. (You can also do this with Who/What in the World Am I?)
15. Snapchat
It might kill your phone battery, but you can always turn to Snapchat for a little entertainment. Whether you're watching other peoples' stories or posting random things of your own, it's always entertaining.
There are tons of other games and various activities you could do to pass the time; the options are endless! Or just try listening to the radio or talking to each other like people used to do cause, you know, that's cool too
