Whenever we think about friends, we think of one of two things: A group of people you form a bond with over similar interests and hobbies, or: The classic hit television series that swept the nation and can now be streamed on your own time through Netflix. For me, I ultimately take the former -- I consider them my own partners in crime. Being close, we often speculate about normal things such as which member of One Direction we would fight in "The Hunger Games" or which Mary-Kate and Ashley movie reigns supreme (we're a rowdy bunch, I know). And when we're older, I'd like to think that we'd still be living it up in a nursing home having wheelchair races, doing shots of NyQuil and getting all of that elderly booty. But aside from all that, I'd like to think that we would all be laughing, gossiping and eating lots and lots of cheesecake. Sound familiar?
Before audiences were familiar with the likes of "Friends'" Rachel, Phoebe and Monica on -- and the dynamic duo of Snooki and JWoww -- Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan and Betty White were being their sassy, honest and wonderful selves once a week for audiences everywhere. Whenever these ladies got together, you were in for a treat (and I'm not just talking about the cheesecake). Even though they provide the ideal retirement life, their antics and actions can be admired and implemented now. Old in age, but young at heart, these ladies prove time and time again that friendship never goes out of style.
1. They always look out for one another.
2. They know no bounds, but only because they care.
3. They can recognize each other before they even come into the room.
4. Even in the stickiest situations, they never abandon one of their own.
5. Let’s be serious, exercise never looked this good.
6. From pulling an all-nighter for a test to watching YouTube videos until three in the morning, they know when you’ve reached your limit and it’s time to hit the hay.
7. They always know what food to order.
8. They know when to push you to get out there and mingle.
9. They know how to get down at the clubs.
10. But they’re also content with a quiet evening at home.
11. They accept that their craziness is merely a part of all their relationships.
12. They’re willing to give whatever the other may need.
13. They never judge.
14. But they also know when to give it to each other straight. #LoveWins
15. And finally, they know the only solution for a problem is dessert.
Cheers to the Golden Girls, for setting goals for friendship since 1985. Here’s hoping we all can be half as courageous, hilarious and loving as these women.
And I'd like to dedicate this article to my own group of girls that I consider especially golden. Thank you for always being my friend.
