If you grew up on the South Shore and are now living away from home like me - here are some things that you've probably realized since you've been gone. Maybe even missed...
1. Marylou's Coffee
You know you're home when you start to see the pink signs - or the big coffee cup getting off the highway in Weymouth (always my first stop). Perfect for coffee dates with friends that you haven't seen in awhile.
2. Peaceful Meadows Ice Cream
Hands down, the best ice cream. Even though in the summer lines can be a 20 minute wait, its well worth it. Frappes are amazing.
3. Prom Dress Facebook Group
Whoever created "Buy and Sell Prom Dresses - South Shore" on Facebook, THANK YOU. Brilliant idea. You will never have to buy a new prom dress ever again.
4. $5 Tuesday's in Hanover
5 dollars for a movie couldn't be a better deal. Totally worth walking from the Dick's Sporting Goods parking lot in the snow.
5. An "All-Seasons" Wardrobe
If you ever live here, you will understand. It could snow one day and be 60 degrees the next. Wish I could say I was kidding.
6. "Dunks" on Every Corner
Again, wish I could say I was kidding. There's probably at least 3 different Dunks within a 5 mile radius of where you are at any time.
7. The Fact that We Say "Dunks"
I couldn't tell you why.
8. The Lawn at the Xfinity Center
During the summer this is like a gathering for every school around to hangout. You probably won't watch the concert - but I've heard it's a lot of fun.
9. Bubblers
A water fountain? Drinking fountain? Apparently those words don't work for Mass natives, so in elementary school we grew up calling them bubblers.
10. Taking Twice the Time to get to the Cape in the Summer
Ah, easily the biggest frustration in the summer. Gotta love vacationers.
11. Bridge Jumping
Very fun and very dangerous. In the summer you're bound to see kids jumping if you're near the water. Don't try this at home.
12. Having a Class Reunion at the Beach
Each school seems to have that one beach everyone goes to. There is no way you'll be able to have a relaxing day without running into anyone you know.
13. 4th of July at Humarock
Everyone who lives here has been to Humarock for 4th of July at some point. Truly an experience in itself.
14. Boston Sports
No explanation needed. Brady is everything.
15. Wicked
Wicked awesome, wicked tired, wicked upset. Because "really" and "super" aren't strong enough adverbs. No, not the Broadway musical.
Special thanks to Abbie, Madi, Meg & Sam:)
