Whether you've been in chorus for one month or 12 years, we all know that there will always be things that only chorus students understand. From rehearsals that last forever to being sick on solo day, the struggles we go through are what binds us together. Here are just a fraction of the things that only we understand.

1. You're practically a language expert, especially Latin

I technically never learned that language but I've sung at least 10 songs in it so I'm pretty much an expert.

2. You hear the word "crescendo" in your sleep

"Dynamics" "Every time you hold out a note you should probably crescendo"

3. You know exactly what your soft palate is and that it should almost always be lifted

It just makes for a better sound.

4. Just because you know soda and dairy are bad for your voice, but that's never stopped you before rehearsal

You've probably even snuck the occasional soda into rehearsal. #Vocalhealth

5. There's always that one song you hate but have to work on every rehearsal

This song doesn't even sound good when we sing it right.

6. There's also that one song you love but you hardly ever rehearse it

You probably perfected it weeks ago and now only sing it at the occasional rehearsal

7. When you finally know all of a song and it sounds perfect for the first time

Look at us go, we rock!

8. When you get to do a song you've already done so you don't have to re-learn it

No sight reading for you

9. When your voice hits that sweet spot

Shout out to my fellow sopranos, you know exactly what I'm talking about

10. Hearing a beautiful chord for the first time

Perfect harmony, It's like a choir of angels

11. When you realize a song has a solo

This solo was made for you.

12. Then you realize it's time to audition for solos

How do you sing again?

13. You could sing your scales and warm ups in your sleep

Girl you kill that chromatic scale

14. When you finish a concert and you know you nailed it

Crushed it

15. When you realize just how much you love chorus

Every day might not be the best but you can't imagine it any other way

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
